Mr. Lewellyn Sammons, who is in the Navy and stationed at Char leston, S. C., is on a visit here to relatives. Mrs. J. W. Wilcher, who was called to Savannah on account of the illness of her sister, returned home Tuesday. Mrs. Luke Ivey and little daugh ter, Pauline, who have been spending some time in Dublin, re turned home Saturday. Newsome, Had operated as a.hotel by .Mrs.i Fan nie Usry was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Usry and her daughter, and Mr. W. H. Ferguson a boarder, were the only Occupa nts of the house when the fire was discov ered, and the flames had made such headway before bein^ dis covered the occupants of the house had a narrow escape for their liyes, Mrs. Usry and her daughter being fore ed to leap from a window for their safety. It is understood ther^i is some in surance on the b,ou:«e and furni ture. The hou.se of"'Mrs. Mamie Johnson and other buildings near by were s^v^d by Gibson’s famous bucket brigade. Nancy Harrell is absent - from school on account of a broken arm. All the school children ex tend their sympathy to her. the school chiIdren,of course, enjoyed the snow last week and a good many of them were absent, Ruth Logue has entered school again. We all welcome her gladly. Louise Allen visited Sgnders ville Saturday. Eva Williams is back in school agaid after having been absent for the last few days. Nannie Todd is suffering from a severe cold. He was a ptominent citizen of GlaS cock county, and served four y ears the Civil War, when he re ceived a wound in his left leg which gave him much suffering ^ P 8 * 8 un *>l his death, The deceased is survived by one son, Mr. James N- Todd. Un ele Hardy, as he was familarly known, was 83 years of age at the time Qf his death. Funeral ser vices were conducted by Rev. T. Mosely at Griffin Chapel Church near Mitchell, and the., remains were laid in th$ir last resting place in the Griffin- Chapel ceme tery. Thus another old hero of the Civil War has passed away.
