Where in orchard, is set out and left to work out its own salvation it is bund that it does not require many years for the owner to come lo the conclusion that he has mis sed his goaI f ,in striving to get a home orchard established and has in its stead a breeding He place 'or diseases and insects. gets iigguted with the continual fail ire in producing fruit and goes ait and cuts the orchard down. This is the best thing he could Jo when he does not give the rees any attention. But on the ither hand if he would only de /ote a little time, attention and ipply a little fertilizer to his or •hard he would find that the home orchard is the best paying piece of soil on the farm. He would have fruit at his disposal welve months in the year, not resh fruits though but the house ,vife could very easily can and preserve the excess fruit that is produced if she could only get to it. But inhere there is no care aken of the trees the worms and other pest take their toll and leave nothing to be realized from he investment. Below is given a spray scedule for peaches aqd apples, the same sprays will be effective on the other orchard fruits. / 1. During the winter months, preferably January or February spray the trees with winter strength lime sulphur. Where the trees are badly infested with scale make two applications, one in the late fall and the other in the spring just before growth begins. 2. Immediately after pedals '(pink part of flower) have fallen spray with one pound of powered arsenate of lead plus three pound of stone time to each fifty gal lons of woter. 3. When calyces or “shucks” are shedding or when small peach is exposed repeat No. 2. 4. Two weeks late after No. 3, is applied spray with self boiled lime sulphur with addition of •one pound arsenate lead or sum mer strength lime sulphur with addition of one pound arsenate lead. Close attention should be given trees this time to note the damage being done by the borer. This grub can do worlds of damage and his presence can be very easily detected by the discharge of a gummy substance at the base of the tree. The worm can be very easily removed with knife. Spray for apples, with lime sulphur winter strength as with peaches. 2. In the spring as the are Jmrsting, after the buds burst, but before blossom bud opens spray with lime phur summer strength as peaches, add one pound of nate lead (o 50 gal. 4. Within a week after the petals fall, but before calyx repeat No. 2. 5. Seven or eight weeks petals fall spray with mixture 4-50 with 1 pound nate lead per 50 gallons water, 6. If thought necessary No. 4 without arsenate lead weeks later. Pick up all cut off under trees to control twig ler. Be sure and burn all the gathered branches. A small spray tank holding 315 gallons will be large enough the home orchard and can be bought at low cost. CAV.C. 666 It a prescription for Colds, Grippe, Flu, Dengue. Bilious Fever and Malaria.
