NO. 36 F AR M A GENT URGES FIGHT ON THE WEEVIL The toll weevil is with us. He has been somewhat dormant for • the past two years;, and the dam age done by this pest has been very small. This is no evidence that he will not come upon us this year and completely wipe out efforts of a year’s work. Several farm visits to prominent farmers in the county has revealed the weevil in pupa stage. Quite a number of squares have been found on the ground and these squares have all been punctured and the pupa weevil living and doing well. At present you will find the weevil damage is spotted, by this we mean that you will not find the damage to be a general thing, but the old weevil that has passed over the winter and has come out to do his damage is not able to cover an entire field but he is able to start in small places and in a short time bis army of forces will be able to take in entire fields. Now is the time to begin the fight. One weevil killed now is worth thousands later. If yog, will begin to notice your crop ai– find these spots where Ihe has b» c»a .it work anifpick up the square; Und burn them then pou '.V ill have made a long step in the right direction toward stopping damage that will be done later. You can’t he too early in this fight—begin now. Do not It stands to reason that the first crop of weevils are cut off that the number that appear later will be in the same propor tion. Plow hands as they plow over the crop can be on the look out for fallen squares and the work can be begun at once. Rev. W. ,1. Howard preached to a full house. We hear that Willis, Jr., will be here during the week. We trust much good may e accomplished during the meeting. Miss Doretha Wood is visiting her brother in the little city of Cadley this week. You boys couldn’t do better than let her know you live around there. She is one of our most popular old maids, but see her and you will wonder why she is Miss and not Mrs. The local camp, No. 982, YV. O. W., held their annual get together Friday, the 9th., with a rousing barbecue. Didn’t you hear of it? Then you better jine fo they pull off another good time. Well us good folks around here will be enjoying life now for a while. Big meetings and good eatings a comeing in together. Peas, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, roastingears cabbage, peaches, apples, cantelopes, watermelons. Oh, shut up yo inoutli boy. Mr. A. D. Rabun and family visited Mrs. Annie Palmer and her father, Mr. J. F. Lampp, one day recently. Yeah, they went fishing, that is A. D. and uncle Josh did. Catch any? Uncle Josh says he never fails, but be is a fisherman tho. Mr. Carl Landrum and sister, Mrs. O. F. Purvis, visited their father Sunday. Carl takes the old gentleman to church, but un cle Lewis can’t see—he just rec ognizes you by your voice. Our farmers seem optomistic concerning the outlook,.of .‘the cotton price, but it’s just a hope without faith. How can they ex pect so much while they go on wearing silks and satins? Does John Henry Ford manufacture Fords and ride in a Packard? Watcher say? If youse ashamed of yo own product you knose the city kids will. Nobody wants to be objects of pity in this d*y of prosperity. Miss Louise Ganus and Miss Gneeva Luckey, of Dealing, are visiting relatives and friends around here this week. Mr. C. H. Wood had with him Sunday his sister’s, Mrs. Emma Rabun and Mrs. Mary Eubanks, of Augusta, Who were alt those people that passed rkieing in that blue skin Buick? Well it would seem some times as tho Carl didn’t care mutch who he hauled eround. We believe the pretty girls out weighed the boys of all classes at Sunday School Sunday. He claims to have been visiting his sisters, hut sha, it’s leaked out. He was all over around Iron Hill. Ask Col. Wilhoit about uncle Josh and Fountain Johnson.
