BADMINTON RANKING
WITH GOLF AND TENNIS
BALTIMORE, April 4 (TP)—The
world’s professional badminton
champion, Jack Purcell, says bad.
minton soon will rank with tennis
and golf in popularity.
Purcell said sports fans are be
coming more and more interested
in badminton, tennis, and golf be
cause they can take part in them,
instead of sitting in the grandstand
as in baseball, and football.
The badminton star says the
game is one of the few in which
the beginner can find enjoyment.
"The early stages of badminton,"
said Purcell, “do not require a
knowledge of complicated plays.
All one has to do is bat the shuttle
across the net. Gradually the play
er adopts the more involved plays.
In tennis and golf, the player can’t
find the same enjoyment right at
the start."
