A nervous, irritable mother, often on the verge of hysterics, is
unfit to care for children; it ruins a child’s disposition and reacts
upon herself. The trouble between children and their mothers
too often is due to the fact that the mother has some female
weakness, and she is entirely unfit to bear the strain upon her nerves
that governing a child involves; it is impossible for her to do anything
calmly. She cannot help it, as her condition is due to suffering and
shattered nerves caused by some derangement of the uterine system
with backache, headache, and all kinds of pain, and she is on tho vergo
of nervous prostration.
When a mother finds that she cannot be calm and quiet with her
children, she may be sure that her condition needs attenl ion, and she can
not do lietter than_to take Lydia E. Pinkliain’.s Vegetable Compound.
Inis medicine will build up her system, strengthen her nerves, and
ablo her to calmly handle a disobedient child without a scene. The

children will soon realize the difference, and seeing their mother quiet,
will themselves become quiet.
Mrs. May Brown, of Chicago, III., says:
1 Pkaji Mas. Pin’kitam :—‘Honor to whom
honor is due,’ und you deserve both the thanks
and honor of the mothers of Amorien whom you
have so blerscdly helped and benefited. I lnivo
used Lydia 13. Pinkhum’s Vegetable Com
pound when I would feel run-down, nervous
und irritable, or have any of the aches and pains
which but few women escape, and I have found
that it relieved mo at once and gave me new
strength. Several Indies, members of our Lit
erary Union, speak in the highest praise of your
Vegetable Compound, as they have been cured
from serious female troubles. One lady,
who thought she must submit to nn opera
tion, was cured without using anything in
the world but Lydia M.Pinkliam’s Vege
table Compound and Sanative Wash.
You have hosts of friends in Chicago, and
if you came to visit our city we would delight to » o
you honor. Gratefully yours,— Mas. May Itiiow.v, 57 Grant Place, Chicago, 111.
How Mrs. Pinkham Helped Mrs. McKinny.
“ Dear Mrs. Pinkham : — I feel it my duty to write and let you know the
good you and your Vegetable Compound are doing. I had been sick ever slnco
my first baby was born, jnd at the birth of my second, my doctor, as well us
myself thought I should never live through it. After that menstruation never
came regular, and when it came I suffered terribly. I also had womb and
ovarian trouble. A friend of my husband's advised him to get Lydia 13.
Pfnkhnm’s Vegetable Compound for me. At first I had no faith in it,
but now nothing could induce me to Iki without, it. Menstruation lias becomo
regular, und I feel like a new woman. Your medicine is a God-setid to suffer
ing women. I hope, this letter will lead others to try Lydia 13. Pinkhun’H
Vegetable Compound. Yours truly, Mrs. Miuuikd McKinny, 118 Pearl
St., San Francisco, Cal.” (March 1C,, 1901).

Trom an nrtlole in a London paper do-
scribing tho actions of a nervous wo
man who was starting on a railway
journey:
"She was in a flurry of excitement
at King’s Cross, and ran hurriedly
between tho van, where her luggago
was being piled in, and tho carriage
In which she had deposited her rugs
and dressing bag.”
The average American would never
suspect from reading this nlono that
thero was a railroad train involved in
tho proceedings. On tho contrary, ho
would suppose that she was going
somewfiero in a vehicle drawn by
horses, and that her trunks wero to
ho taken In a separate conveyance—
perhaps a moving van. Ono may
guess nt what is meant by tho dressing
bag, but wlmt. in the world was tho
lady's object In carrying rugs with
her? Here, we understand that rugs
nro articles to he spread upon lloors
to tako the place of carpets. No
American lady would he likely to start
rm a journey with her arms full of
those useful and often costly ma
terials. But the English lady’s ruga
were not to ho walked on. They wero
to put over her knees for tho purpose
of keeping her legs warm. In this
country they would perhaps be called
blankets, if any ono ever had occasion
to use such things wliilo traveling on
an American railway.
