Carriers drew the fire of “A Rural Carrier” But he fired a blank cartridge. Ho could not relate the fact that there Kras not any necessity for this raise of salaries. Had A Rural Letter Carrier resigned his posi tion at the time Mr- Hardwick voted for this ruise of salaries his hay is what h« fed to two horses io one month. Now this was ex travagant feeding and more feed than the ordinary tax paver can ulVot'd. But why waste words, Why should any one own and feed two horses with which to do the work cf one? Why not cut out half of this 1'eod bill? Why pay live hundred dollars for an outfit when an ample one could bo bought for two hundred and fifty dollars? The truth is that, any one horse farmer who owns his own land could have made more money earring the mail at sixty dollars per month than ho could by 1 ard work cm his farm. • Many people wins have t salaries have to rent the land they work. And then, think of it, it onlv requires about half of tlio time of these Curriers in which to do this work. Wluit, are we come- mg to? 1 am sorry that "A Ru ral Lotti r Carrier” went out of his wav to milks an unworthy | fling at preachers. We are com- j mantled tc count preachers worthy ; of double honor, and to esteem; them very highly for their work’s sake. In Gods name, i.k.t rs do so.
