On Sunday last,, Mr. Boyce Watson, the recently appointed teacher of Se nior class of the Salem Sunday school assumed his new position, and made some very wise and appropriate sug gestions to his class. I hope that the class will profit by them and that Mr. Watson will develope into an able and niluential teacher. I Heartily commend the editorial in ihc last issue of the Progress which condemned the efforts of the Carolina a ills to bear the cotton market High priced cotton not only benefits the South but it benefits the whole coun try. Give him plenty of money and the cotton glower becomes a good cus tomer of the world. High prieed cot ton is a blessing—not a curse, and those who arc constantly striving to force the price down arc enemies to the welfare not only of the cotton growers, but to all the people who hove pro ducts to sell that are 'consumed by Ssuthern people. sir. Patten is said to have made near ly four million dollars in one day, re cently, on cotton. It is to be regretted that so much of the present crop was sold by the growers before the recent advances took place, but still we are grateful and thankful to God that the prices r' ali/.ed have been in excess o' those ordinarily obtained. We are glad to note that a groat many , ats are being sol i at this place, f >r seed; and we hope that farmers will n >t be carried away with tHe present high price of cotton and fail to raise a s illiciency of supplies at home.
