MR. TYSON CHOKED
DOWN HIS AUTO IN
FRONT OF S. & S. ENGINE
A second accident, happening j
by a mix up between an toto
and Engineer Lonnie Wilson’s |
bulgine on the Savannah & 1
Statesboro Railway, happened
Sunday afternoon when Mr. J J
C. Tyson, of Savannah, drove!
his tin Lizzie in front of the ap- ■
proaching train a mile west of.
Eldora at what is known as the!
Glisson’s Crossing on Sunday;
afternoon.
The circumstances seem to’
have been that the engineer)
blew the accustomed signal for;
the road crossing, some dis
tance away, but Mr. Tyson,!
thinking that he could make itj
across ahead of the train, made)
a dash to do so.
It’s the olu warning: “Look
out for the engine when the
whistle blows.’’
Mr. Tyson got midway of the;
railroad track, saw the train
right on his heels, and instead;
of speeding on across, applied!
the brakes to his car and it
stopped in the center of the rail
road track.
The engine plowed through!
the center of the Fot'd sedan, i
and fortunately the impact!
threw the occupants out on one|
side of the railroad track. En-|
gineer Wilson never having seen!
them until he saw the wreckage
tumbling down to the side of!
the engine.
The impact was from the ap-j
proach from the off-side of the!
engine on which the engineer!
was seated.
Mrs. Tyson and a small child
were pretty badly injured and
were hurried to Savannah for
L atment. Mr. Tyson escaped
with only minor injuries.
The Ford sedan, which is said i
to have been the first auto oi)
any kind that the Rev. John S. |
Wilder of Savannah ever own-)
ed, was a total wreck.
