Miss Aloha Hutto, bride-elect
of Randy Starling, was honored
with a miscellaneous shower on
Saturday at the home of Mrs.
Harold Duggar. Mrs. Roland
Lee and Mrs. Tommy Cannady
were co-hostesses.
Miss Hutto wore a brown and
beige lace dress with brown ac
cessories. She was presented a
corsage of pink carnations by
the hostesses.

Theron
Dickerson
Passes Away
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.
—Mr. Theron Dickerson died
early Monday morning after a
judden illness. He was a native
of Bulloch County and an iron
worker.
He is survived by four broth
ers, Harold and Wayren Sr. of
Pembroke, and Quinton of Mt.
Vernon, and Billy of Washing
ton, D. C. One half sister Betty
Dickerson. No time has been set
for the funeral but burial will
be at Ash Branch Cemetery.
Morrison Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.

The bride is the daughter of ,
Mrs. Slauson Miller, Fort Lau
derdale, and Mr. William Olliff ,
Miller, Bellevue, Washington. ,
The groom is the son of Mrs.
Mueller Wertheim of New York
City, and of Mr. Franklin C.
Wertheim, Hyde Park, New
York.
Nuptial music was played by
Mr. Robert Sears. The marriage
was performed by the Rev.
Canon William S. Brace, rector
of the church. The acolyte
lighting the six tall candles on
the high altar and the candel
abra which sided the altar was
Mr. Rodney R. Brace. The
flowers on the altar were white
gladioli and yellow chrysan
themums with baby’s breath.
The bride wore a traditional
gown of white peau-de-soie with
organza overlay, and fitted
bodice with covered buttons at
the back and at the cuffs. Above
the cuff was an organza inset.
Dainty arganza appliqueed with
seed pearls and irridescents
were at the cuffs, on the bodice
around the boat neck and down
the front panel. At the hem
edge of the 3-ft. train was an
other appliqueed inset; the
train was as though attached
to the back of the gown with
a bow. The waist-length tulle
full veil fell from a crystal
beads head piece which gave
the affect of a tiara. The bride
wore a string of pearls and
small earrings.
The bridal bouquet of yellow
sweetheart roses, white carna
tions and baby’s breath cascad
ed atop the bride’s own small
red-leather Book of Common
Prayer which was covered with
satin and lace from her moth
er’s bridal gown, and ended
with white ribbon knotted with
yellow roses and baby’s breath.
The bride also had an heirloom
lace handkerchief which had
been carried by many other
brides of the Wertheim family.

University, sister of the bride,
was maid-of-honor. Miss
Debra Ruth Wertheim, New
York City and Vassar, sister of
the groom, was bridesmaid,
Carrying out the blue and yel
low wedding colors, the attend
ants wore long light blue
gowns, the skirts, wide belt
with bow in front, buttons, high
collars and cuffs of which were
of linen. The long sleeves were
of voile. Shoes were of match
ing blue. Headpieces were each
a large linen bow. The yellow
touch came in with the Wil
liamsburg Colonial bouquets
which the attendants carried.
Each bouquet was surrounded
by a white lace doilie and was
made of yellow daisies, yellow
carnations and baby’s breath,
with yellow ribbon streamers
knotted with baby’s breath.
The groom’s boutonniere was
as though from his bride’s bou
quet, a yellow rose with a sprig

The mother-of-the-bride wore
a simple, scooped-neck blue
dress, with matching circle-hat
and veil. As accessories she
wore a string of pearls, pearl
earrings, and off-white gloves
and shoes and blending purse.
The groom’s mother wore a
smart tropical-red and black
figured dress with black acces
sories and an orchid corsage.
The reception was held at
“Meleluka,” home of the bride,
in the garden and in the house.
The color scheme followed
through at the cake table with
a vase of yellow daisies. The
three-tiered white wedding cake,
topped with bride and groom
figurines, had pale yellow icing
roses. White candles were on
the table, and blue ones burned
on the buffet.
After the wedding trip to
Montego Bay, Jamaica, Mr. and
Mrs. Wertheim will reside in
Rego Park, New York.
Out-of-town relatives includ
ed those of the bride: Mr. Wil
liam 0. Miller, Seattle, Wash.,
her father; Mr. and Mrs. Frank

Chain Show
Held In County
Last Friday commemorated
the twenty-second year of the
annual Sears Poultry Chain
Show held by Brvan County
4-H Clubs.
Ten 4-H Club boys and girls
cooperated in the chain this
year, although only six actually
showed their chicks. The show,
held outside the County Agent’s
Office, was judged by Mr. Mil
ton Y. Dendy, Extension Poul
try Husband, with the Agricul
ture Extension Service in Ath
ens. Mr. Dendy judged the
chicks according to their size
and body weight. They were
also checked for lice, pin feath
ers and if they were ready for
laying.
Winning blue ribbons were
Kathy Wiggins, Anne Sheffield,
Evon Carroll, Magnolia Smokes,
and Susie Floyd. Red ribbons
were won by Michael King. All
4-H members with blue rib
bons are eligible to take their
chicks to the Southeastern Fair
in Atlanta where they will be
judged for first place in the
district.

weighed 8 lbs. 5 ozs. Maternal

Hutto-Starling Wedding Plans Complete
The wedding of Miss Aloha Lea Hutto and Mr. Car] Randall
Starling will be solemnized on Sunday, September 14, 1969, at
3:30 o’clock P.M. at Statesboro First Methodist Church. The
ceremony will be performed by Dr. G. Ross Freeman, pastor. A
reception will follow in the social hall of the church. No invi
tations are being sent, but friends and relatives are invited to
attend. «

MISS AMANDA PURCELL
Announcement is being made of the engagement and ap
proaching marriage of Miss Sallie Amanda Purcell, Wildwood,
to Mr. Robert Mitchell Young, of Jacksonville.
Miss Purcell is the daughter of Mrs. J. H. Purcell and the
late Mr. Purcell of Wildwood; Mr. Young is the son of Mrs.
Ludell Young and Mr. E. B. Young, both of Jacksonville.
Miss Purcell was graduated from Wildwood High School,
also attended Lake-Sumter Junior College.
Mr. Young was graduated from Andrew High School, also
Massey Business College. He is employed as accountant at Fred
Brooks Cigar Company, Jacksonville.
The wedding will be an event of October 18, 1969 at 7:00
p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Wildwood, with Rev. Claud
McAdams, church pastor, as the officiating clergyman.

Died Friday In
Savannah Hosp.
Edward Rudolph Shuman, Sr.,
57 of Richmond Hill died in a
Savannah Hospital Friday.
He was a native of Bryan
County and a member and dea
con of the Richmond Hill Bap
tist Church.
Survivors inelude his wife,
Mrs. Addie Mae Shuman; four
daughters, Mrs. Thelma Rand
all of Clyo; Mrs. Elvie Mae
Wilson of Richmond Hill, Mrs.
Doris Lovell of Love, Ark., and
Mrs. Margaret Widener of Rich
mond Hill; two sons, Edward R.
Shuman, Jr. of Springfield, and
Lewis A. Shuman of Richmond
Hill.
Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Sunday at the Richmond
Hill Baptist Church with Rev.
Thomas Barnard and Rev. C. M.
Butler officiating. Burial was
in Richmond Hill Cemetery. Ac
tive pallbearers were, Roger
Parker, James Strickland,
Vaughn Skinner, M. L. Coffer,
Ira C. Casey, Jr., and Robert
Fennell. Honorary pallbearers
were, the Deacons of the Rich
mond Hill Baptist Church and
L. C. Gill, Sr., C. C. Adams,
Dave Sutton, Tommy Daring,
Billy Miles, and Dr. Harry
Rawlings. Carter Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.

Garden Club
To Meet
The September meeting of
the Richmond Hill Garden Club
will be held next Wednesday,
September 10th. The group will
gather at the Richmond Hill
State Fish Hatchery at 3:30 for
a tour of this facility conduct
ed by a staff biologist.

Mr. and Mrs. Carlos L. Lane of Pembroke, Georgia, announce
the engagement of their daughter, Mary Delia, to Mr. Charles
Anthony Alexander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Alexander of
Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
Miss Lane was graduated from Bryan County High School
and South Georgia College, where she received her Associate of
Science Degree. She is presently employed by the Barnett First
National Bank in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Alexander was graduated from Beaver Falls High School,
and is presently serving in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS
Catawba in Mayport, Fla.

Grover Denmark
Seriously 11l In
Candler Hosp.
The many friends of Grover
Denmark are concerned over his
condition at Candler General
Hospital in Savannah. Grover is
known to many by the name the
Mayor gave him, “Lester Mad
dox,” because he looks so much
like the Governor. He is head
of the Local Legion Post and
one of the best liked citizens in
the city, all of whom are pull
ing for him, hoping that a mir
acle might happen and that he
can soon return to his home in
Pembroke.

Church To Hold
Gospel Sing
Wildwood Baptist Church is
sponsoring a gospel sing Sat
urday night, September 13th. It
will be held at Wildwood Bap
tist Church. The pastor, Rev.
Rountree promises new faces
and different groups. The pub
lic is cordially invited to come
out and hear some good gospel
singing. Admission will be free.

School Junior Class held its
first meeting of the ’69-’7O
school term on Thursday, Sep
tember the fourth, at fourth
period. Mrs. Orman, class
sponsor, presided until a presi
dent was chosen. Officers elect

The class voted to sell birth
day calendars as their money
making project to finance the.

class will sell the calendars for
the next two weeks.
The meeting was then ad
journed by the president.

discuss the sale of the calendars.

Methodist Youth
Fellowship Meets
The Methodist Youth Fellow
ship met Sunday, August 7th
in the social hall of the Meth
odist Church. The meeting was
called to order by Anne Bum
sed, President. The program
was presented by Carter Harn,
Vice-President. She talked
about parents and if there was
a generation gap. She closed
with a prayer. We then dis
cussed old business and new
business. We were very suc
cessful with our carwash Sat
urday, August 6th where we
made $26.00.
Sunday morning at church
our new officers were install
ed. We have two new members
in the M.Y.F. They are Allen
Greene, and Connie Bowers. We
ar very pleased to have them
with us.
Lynn DeLoach was elected
Fellowship Counselor. The
meeting was adjourned and the
benediction was said.

Charges Sat.
At Pembroke
Five of a group of 6 men,
ranging around 19 to 21 years
old, who has been held in the
Bryan County Jail for some
time on one or more charges,
including armed robbery, enter
ed their pleas of guilt when a
hearing was held in Pembroke
Saturday and began their
terms. One decided to await
trial.
Those pleading guilty were
Boyd Beasley, 10 year sentence
with 4 probated, and he to make
6. Jasper Mikell, Jr., 10 year
sentence, to make 5 and had 5
probated. Willie C. Gaines got
10 years, to make 5 and probate
5. Ulysses Fowler, 10 years, to
make 4 and probate 6. Joseph
Prigden, 10 years, to make 4
and probate 4.
There were 6 to face charges
and the sixth' one decided to
take his chance with a trial.
Wright Joins
Faculty At
Richmond Hill
Harold L. Wright, formerly
of Ashburn, Georgia, will teach
science and mathematics at
Richmond Hill High School this
term. Wright holds the degree
of Bachelor of Science in Edu
cation from Georgia Southern
College and taught science at
Coffee County High School in
Douglas, Georgia for two years
before coming to Richmond Hill.
During his college career,
Wright was active in the col
lege dramatics society, Alpha
Gamma Pi fraternity, and the
Young Republicans organiza
tion. He lists his hobbies as
naval history, fishing, and crea
tive writing.
Wright will sponsor the Sci
ence club at Richmond Hill and
will co-sponsor the dramatics
program. He and his wife, the
former Miss Mavis Osteen of
Douglas, will reside in Rich
mond Hill.

The Richmond Hill School
staff was entertained with a
brunch Tuesday of Preplanning
Week in the dining room of
the Home Economics Building
by the Richmond Hill P.T.A.
Mrs. Fred Newlin, president
of P.T.A., welcomed the guests
and invited them to the dining
room where an array of delici
ous refreshments were served.

J. E. Pevey Is
Very Hl In
Bulloch Hosp.
The many friends of J. E.
Pevey, Pembroke’s Postmaster
will regret to learn that he is
in a serious condition in the
Bulloch County Hospital.
He underwent surgery for a
gall bladder condition, and it
is reported that the gall blad
der had already burst, before
the operation, however the at
tending physicians feel that
they have coped with the situa
tion, and while he remains in
a serious condition, it is a long
ways from hopeless. We under
stand that he is not allowed
company.
ANNOUNCEMENT
There will be a Kennel and
Quail Management Short course
scheduled for the Midville Ex
periment Station on September
17. The program begins at 10
a.m. and will adjourn at 4:00
p.m. You may contact D. E.
