In addition to the improvements to the Courthouse the Bryan
County Commissioners have made progress in other areas
of development throughout the county. Various projects
and programs previously reported on in the Commissioner's
Book, "Partners In Progress", which will be available in
the Commissioner's Room at Open House Sunday, are pro
gressing rapidly.
• In the State Park the road has been completed connect
ing the major park to Savage Island. The contract has
been let for the superintendent's home, and Tommy
Darieng of Richmond Hill has been named park super
intendent.
• The State Game and Fish Commission Headquarters
buikling at the Demery Place is 90% complete. It will
be staffed by state and federal geologists and will serve
as state headquarters for the Coastal Area. The build
ing will be open 24 hours a day.
• The Mill Creek Watershed Project is progressing on
schedule. On May 19 alO inch rain in a six hour period
did little damage in Bryan County's Mill Creek Water

moved the water away from the Pembroke area within
24 hours and the lower end of the channel was back
in its banks within 60 hours.
• In 1968 the Bryan County Industrial Authority was creat
ed. The County Commissioners have appointed mem
bers to this Authority and at the present time they have
several projects and prospects which will increase em
ployment and business throughout the county.
