Political Announcements
FOR JUDGE OF
THE SUPERIOR COURTS
TO THE CITIZENS OF THE
ATLANTIC JUDICIAL
CIRCUIT:
I hereby announce my
candidacy for re-election to the
Office of the Judge of the
Superior Courts of the Atlantic
Judicial Circuit in the
Democratic Primary to be held
on September, 9, 1970.
I feel that 1 am qualified to
hold this important office by
education and experience, being
a graduate of the University of
Georgia School of Law and
having practiced law in the
Atlantic Judicial Circuit for
many years. In addition to my
private practice during this
period, 1 served as Judge of the
City Court of Hinesville for 14
years, as Solicitor General of the
Atlantic Judicial Circuit for 4
years and am now completing
my first term as Judge of the
Superior Courts of this Circuit. I
feel that my experience in these
various capacities and in working
with the elected public officials
of the various counties has
enabled me to gain experience
and knowledge which could not
be acquired in any other
manner. I feel that these
experiences will be invaluable to
me and to the citizens of the
various counties in fulfilling the
duties of the Office of Judge of
the Superior Courts.
If re-elected to this important
office, I promise each of you
that I will continue to conduct
the affairs of this office
according to law and that you
will never have any regret for
having entrusted me with this
responsibility.
Since it will be impossible for
me to see each of you
personally, I will appreciate your
considering this as a personal
request for your vote and
support in my campaign for an
endorsement term.
Yours sincerely,
Paul E. Caswell

ATLANTA (PRN)- It
seems somewhat incongruous
that a society that can
construct an airplane that can
cross the country in 3 hours
cannot dispose of a beer can.
It’s obvious that beer can
disposal has us stumped; the
evidence can be plainly seen
along any roadside. How could
any civilization that calls itself
enlightened put up with such a
mess if it knew of away to get
rid of it?
Actually, the beer can was
only an example-candy
wrappers and soft drink
bottles must be just as
puzzling since they are present
in just as great numbers. It
looks as though we have,
through diligent effort,
succeeded in creating
substances so impervious to
the elements that we can’t get
rid of them once their
usefulness is over. Our
technology has outstripped
itself as it were.
Ridiculous! The same
technology that perfected
these substances could perfect
the solution if only some time
and effort were channeled in
that direction.
Why hasn’t it been done? In
our modem, consumeForient
ed society it is much more
profitable to produce than to
destroy. Unless, of course, it is
our environment which is
being destroyed.
Environmental quality seems
to be earmarked “free for,
the raping” on most cost
analysis sheets.
There is away out,
however. Recycling is the
word and the way. It is the
concept and the process of
rendering our trash into usable
Republican Candidates
Listed For Primary
ATLANTA (PRN)-The
Republican Party of Georgia
at 10:51 a.m. on Wednesday,
June 17, certified to the
Secretary of State its
candidates who qualified with
the State Executive
Committee for the 1970
General Primary on September
9. State Chairman-Wiley A.
Wasden, Jr., of Savannah
turned over to Secretary of
State Ben Fortson a list of 100
candidates and a check for
$47,730.00, the State’s
portion of all qualifying fees.
Wasden said that the
Republican Party of Georgia
had the largest field of
state-wide candidates in its
history and he expects an
equally complete slate of
candidates seeking county
offices after all these have
been reported to the State
Republican Headquarters in
Atlanta by his County
Chairmen.
The list turned over to
Secre-tary Fortson included
the following: three
candidates for Governor; two
for Lt. Governor; seven for
U.S. Congress; one for State
Treasurer; one for Comptroller
General; two for Secretary of
State; one for Commissioner
of Agriculture; one for Labor
Commissioner; one for Judge
of Superior Court; one for
Public Service Commissioner;
16 for State Senate and 64 for
State House of Representa
tives.
Wasden said he is extremely
proud of the large number of
Republican candidates and is
certain of their success in the
November General Election.
“We anticipate an exciting
Primary in September,”
Wasden said, “and on
November 3, we will elect
more Republicans than ever to
office from the county
courthouses on up to the
Governor’s office and the
Congress.”
Following his review of
certified candidates, Chairman
Wasden revealed that the
Republican Party of Georgia is
presenting two questions on
its ballots to be voted on in
the September 9 Primary. The
wording of these questions
will be:
(1) Do you favor efforts to
legally allow assignment of
pupils in the public schools of
Georgia based primarily on the
“Freedom of Choice” of the
parents?
(2) Do you favor the
reduction of ad valorem

products again. A paper baling
machine is an excellent
example of recycling. In it,
waste paper is conveniently
packaged for other recycling
processes to remeige as usable
paper again. Os course, paper
is an organic substance which
nature can break down in
time. The new synthetics and
metal alloys make up the trash
that lasts and lasts. If an
economical method of
recycling could be developed
for these materials, we might
be on the way to controlling
our litter problem.
Ecology is a big word these
days, and most industries give
it lip service and very little
else. It will require money,
though. If only 1/8 of what
modem industry spends on
research and development
were redirected toward the
pollution problem, discernible
results would soon be felt.
Positive governmental
action is also needed. Aid in
the form of subsidies and tax
benefits which make
environmental research
financially sound would be a
great help in persuading
industry. Artistic and cultural
grants are given; why not
ecological grants for bonafide
research in the field of
pollution control? This too
would serve the public good.
This is not meant to deride
industry, but merely to point
out the tremendous help it
could be in the crucial battle
to retain a livable habitat on
this planet. Technology has
brought us many good things,
and it can bring us more if we
can make it work for the
environment instead of against
it.
property taxes even though it
results in an increase in other
forms of taxation?
The GOP leader stated that
the printing of these questions
on the Republican Ballot, as
the Georgia Election Code
allows, is to “get an indication
of how the Republican voters
feel on these two issues.” Mr.
Wasden added that he firmly
believes both of these
questions are among the
primary issues of the 1970
campaigns and that this
opportunity given to the
voters of Georgia to express
their opinion concerning these
two topics is an example of
true democracy.
