learn he is a patient in
the Bulloch County hos
pital in Statesboro. Mr.
Waters is a prominent
senior citizen and mem
ber of First Baptist ch
urch of Pembroke. His
family has been con
cerned about his condit
ion since he entered the
hospital on Sunday
afternoon.
4H’ers Attend B-B-Q School
A barbecue school
was held Tuesday, June
30 for interested 4-H’
ers. The class began
at 10:00 A.M. with Ex
tension Agents, D.E.
Medders and Marjorie
V. Jones in charge. Ea
ch participant brought
his own grill but was
furnished 1/2 a chicken
for barbecuing. The

Mr. and Mrs. Pratt
Williams spent last
week vacationing in
Miami and Nassau. They
were accompanied by
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy
Covington of Savannah.
The four-some drove to
Miami where they boar
ded a cruiser for Nassau
and three days of sun
and sight-seeing. They
returned Saturday, a
little sun-burned, but
reported the trip to the
island was worth it all.

anniversary on Sunday, July 12. A reception will be given by their
children in the Social Hall of First Baptist Church on Sunday after

Enjoy Kicklighter
Christian Camp
Several of the youth
from the Pembroke
Christian Church re
turned Tuesday of last
week after sharing five
days of fellowship, Bible
study, and fun with
twenty other campers
at Kicklighter Christian
Camp near Townsend,
Ga.
During the five-day
week, the highschool age
group, with the help of
ready counselors, stu
died through the book
of Phillipians. In open
discussion groups they
studied the procedures
of how to form a Church
and make it grow.
Free time was filled
with soft ball, swim
ming, and various other
activities.

Highway Department Seeks
Dredging Project Permit
The State Highway Dept,
has petitioned the U.S. Corps
of Engineers for a permit to
carry out extensive dredging
in the vicinity of Isle of Wight
in Liberty and Bryan counties
in a major section of the In
terstate-95 project.
More than 875 acres and
approximately 3 million cubic
yards of material will be in-

The highway department is
seeking permission to dredge
135,000 cubic yards of unsuita
ble materials from the pro
posed right-of-way crossing
for 1-95 at Jones Creek.
The department also seeks
a permit to remove 842,000
cubic yards of unsuitable ma
terial from Jerico River
Crossing.
The material removed will
be placed in 10 disposal areas
covering approximately 527
acres, the Savannah District
Engineer’s office reported.
Fill material for 1-95 then
will be obtained from hy
draulic borrow pits on both
side of Jerico River west of
the proposed route of 1-95.
Material also will be ob
tained from a second exten
sive hydraulic borrow pit in
Buttermilk Sound downriver,
extending into Laurel View
River. Several small hydraul
ic borrow pits located in the
vicinity of Jones Creek also
will be used, the engineers
office reported.
The hydraulic pit areas will
cover approximately 350 acres
and will produce an estimated
2 million cubic yards of fill
material.
Dredging will be to a depth
of approximately 30-45 feet
below the existing marsh lev
el.
The disposal areas and the
hydraulic embankment will
have a berm and will be
equipped with waste weirs to
retain material.
The permit will be issued
only after careful considera
tion of the public interest in

The annual Bazemore
family reunion was held,
Sunday, July sth at
Dashers Fishing Lodge.

ple attended the ga
thering, hailing from
Statesboro, Brooklet,
Savannah, Columbus,
Pembroke, Atlanta, Ja
cksonville, Fla. and va
rious towns in the south
east. A basket lunch
was spread on the huge
picnic tables in the re
creation area at the
lodge, at 1 p.m. and en
joyed by all.
Following the noon
meal, officers were
