FAKE BOLL WEEVIL REME
DIES RAILROADED
ON FARMERS
In a recent bulletin issued by
the United States Department of
Agriculture, emphasis is brought
to bear upon the farmers not to
grab on to each and every boll
weevil eradicator, poison or ma
chine placed on the market. It
has been proven through test by
this department, that these de
vices are useless, and an extra
expense to the farmer.
The Only Remedies Now
The Association of Southern
Agricultural Workers at its re
cent convention at Memphis con
sidered the whole problem of boll
weevil control and, in addition to
certain cultural methods, it rec
ommended the consideration of
three remedies.
This convention heartily en
dorsed the use of the dusting
methods in areas where the yield
of cotton was high enough to
warrant the expense. It also en
dorsed the Florida method for
the regoin in which it has been
proven to be applicable, and fur
ther recommended extensive
tests of this method in other re
g?©ns of li^ht yields..
In another paragiaph it called
attention to the fact that the mo
lasses arsenate treatment, al
though not yet subjected to suf
ficiently detailed experimental
tests to warrant its endorsement,
had apparently given results
over a wide area that warranted
further consideration, and it
therefore recommended thor
ough and immediate tests of this
method by State and Federal
agencies. —।

PEMBROKE. BRYAN COUNTY, GA.. FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 1923
County Field Day Is
Tremendous Success
PROF. BOWDEN HANDLES
BRYAN’S BIG DAY AD-
MIRABLY
Bryan County’s Field Day was
a huge success, and to this over
a thousand people will attest
one of the biggest things put
over, and a credit to the county
as a whole.
Everything went off in fine
style, the entire day being taken
up In some form of entertain
ment for those present, among
the most important one of the
best dinners, and dinner that a
king would be proud to partake.
The success of this field day is
largely due to the untiring ef
forts of Prof. Bowden and his
efficient faculty, who have work
ed faithfully to put this day
over in fine style, and put it over
they did. There is no doubt in
the world that all present en
joyed themselves, and it is earn
estly hoped that each and every
one returned to his home with
keen appreciation of the fact
that it has taken many days of
painstaking work by our princi
pal, Mr. Bowden.
MASS MEETING -' J
, , —<— *
Further notice is given 'that a
mass meeting shall be held at
the school house at Ellabelle
April 13 at 3 o’clock p. m. All
the people of the district are re
quested to meet. We owe our
undivided efforts to this great
cause.
We Believe In the Future of Pembroke
and Bryan County.
The Linotype of which we made mention in our
issue of February 9th, and illustration of which we re
produced in our issue of March has been ordered and
has arrived. It will be assembled for use this week.
With the arrival of this machine will mark the be
ginning of a new era for the Enterprise and will also
be a benefit to Bryan County and its people because
we are going to have a much bigger and better paper.
We have expended an enormous amount of money
for this machine and had we not faith in the future
progress of Pembroke and Bryan County and the
people of both, we would not have made this investmnet.
Bryan County, is no doubt coming to the front by
leaps and bounds and no long period of time will elapse
before our dream of a great Bryan County will be real
ized, but we must all putour shoulders to the wheel and
do our share.
The position of the Enterprise is no doubt, the most
imnortant of all and we will spare no energy in our
endevor to bring Bryan County foward.
If you like us, have faith in the future progress of the
County and want to help us send in your subscription
and remember its your paper and without you it cannot
live. We hope to see the Honor Roll swell out of its
bounbs in the future to take care of the payments on
tne modern machinery we are installing.
If you know of any one who is not a subscriber to
the Enterprise remind him of his duty to himself and
his County in which he makes his living, by supporting
the Home Paper.

STATESBORO AGGIES GO
DOWN IN DEFEAT
In a game seething with action
on both sides, the Pembroke

afternoon, to the tune of 9 to 7
before a crowd of over five hun
dred people from this and ad
joining counties.
This is the first game of the
season for the local boys, but
under the coachship of Mr.
Smith were rapidly welded into
a fighting piece of machinery.
They look very good in their new
uniforms, an entire new outfit
allotted to each player. They
present a promising bunch of
lads, and good things are expect
ed of them.
The complete line-up will ap

Entreprise.

Sen. Wm. J. Harris
Made Talk Friday
ADDRESS DELIVERED IN
SCHOOL AUDITORIUM
Senator William J. Harris of
Georgia arrived in the city on
Thursday night from Claxton,,
and spoke to the people of Pem
broke and Bryan county shortly
after 11 o’clock Friday morning,
at the school auditorium, before
one of the largest crowds that
ever assembled within the por
tals’ of the old building.
The Senator’s speech, which
was short and down to the
point, was delivered principally
to the farmers, for whom he has
been working hard during the
past session of Congress. The
Senator fully appreciated the
fact that they need a great deal
of help during the present crisis.
After spending practically the
entire day here, he was motored
to Meldrim catching the after
noon train for Sylvania, speaking
there in the morning, and that
afternoon at Millen. Stops were
made at Lanier and Eden, where
the Senator met a number of
people and shook hands with
them. :
Much Impressed.
The hospitality shown the
Senator was greatly appreciated
by him, and he was loud in his
praise at the wonderful way the
people of Bryan county gathered
together on the celebration of
their field day.
