IO( \G ME.VS LIUR.VRY ASSOCIA
TION.
We desire to make a few remarks in
reference to this Association, for the pur
pose of disabusing an erroneous impres
sion that perhaps has become prevalent
among the young men of this city.
We have heard it remarked by several
parties, that the membership of this As
sociation is confined to the members of
the Methodist congregation, and that
members of other denominationsofProtee
ta»t churches are not allowed to become
associated with the order. This is an en
tirely wrong impression, and should at
once, and we trust will, be abandoned by
those who harbor it. It is true the As
sociation originated among,and is officer
ed by members of Trinity' Church, and
the meetings are held at Trinity Lecture
Looms, but any and every young man
in the city, whether he is a member of
any church or not, if lie is only moral
and upright, is cordially invited to be
come associated with the organization.—
Not only' is the Association glad to have
the young men come up and join of their
own Tree v ill and accord, but they have
actually appointed a large committee,
whose duity it is to seek after young men
and induce them to unite with the organ
ization. and we are pleased to know that
this committee has entered upon its task
in good faith, and that upwards of
thirty new members have been reported
during the past month. The following
paragraphs are a part of the Constitution
of the Association:
Art. I. —Sec. 1. Any young man in
regular standing with any Evangelical
Church, may become an active member
of this Association on the payment of one
dollar annually.
Sec. 2. Any young man of good moral
character may become an associate mem
ber on payment of one dollar, and be en
titled to all the rights and privileges, ex
cept holding office.
Let every young man then who desires
to become a member of this worthy
Christian institution go and enrol liis
name and pay into the Treasury the small
sum of one dollar, and he will be en
litled to membership for one year, and
enjoy all the privileges of tlie Associa
tion.
A meeting of the Association was held
on last Wednesday evening, and despite
the very inclement weather we were grat
ified to see such a fair attendance. Every
member present appeared to have the in
terests of the institution at heart, and all
seemed to work in unity to promote the
object for which it was organized—that
of disseminating useful and religious
knowledge by opening a library room,
where our young men can entertain them
selves a few hours in the evening in read
ing instructive works, &c.
We are requested to say that the As
sociation would be glad to receive any
donations of proper books, magazines,
papers, &c., from those who may have
any of these articles on hand and have
no particular desire for them. We are
confident that enough reading matter
could be gathered from among the citi
zens to fill the Association Library. AH
donations may be sent to the Drug Store
of Mr. R. 11. Tatem, Librarian, or to tlie
Association Rooms on Tuesday evenings.

cles, which he will dispose of at reason
able prices. Read his advertisement and
don’t fail to give him a call.
Grist, Meal, &c.
Every family in this city uses one or
tlie other or both of tlie above articles,
and it would be well for them to remem
ber that they cab obtain a good quality,
and any quantity, at the Grist Mill of W.
S. McFarland, on Jefferson street, rear of

all orders promptly, and deliver the ar-.
tides in any quantity in any portion of

Tlie Bainbridge Argus of the Cth con
tains a notice of a meeting of the citizens
of that place and vicinity, in reference to
to the projected extension of tlie Gulf
Railroad to Bainbridge. The meeting
Avas held on the 2d in Bainbridge, and the
Argus says “somewhere between thirty
live and fifty thousand dollars of bona
fide private subscriptions have been ob
tained. We are still hopeful; and believe
a sufficient number of our unselfish and
public spirited men 'will do their duty to
insure the extension of the Road.”
The Bainbridge Argus of the 6th says :
“We have been informed that one of our
colored citizens, who is slightly misce
genated, declares his determination to be
