McCauley, President, Savannah Bank and Trust Co. FRANK C. BATTEY, of Hunter, Pearce & Battey, Cotton and Naval Stores Factors. A WORD TO THE VOTER. THE PEOPLES’ DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE sub mits the above ticket to the electors of this com munity with the same confidence in the integrity and capacity of its nominees and with the same faith in its success at the polls on January the eighth as it did in the primary of June the twelfth of the past year. In this as in that instance every effort has been made to present to the people of this city as the candidates of this party men whose honesty ancK integrity in private life is without blemish and whose capacity and desire to efficiently discharge their duties to the public in official life is beyond question. Second only to this prime requisite of integrity and capability THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE has made a studied effort to make its nominees truly representative of the people. Every SAVANNAH, GA., JANUARY 5, 1907. class of our citizens has been accorded representation on this ticket and no man has been proscribed on account of his rank, calling or religious convictions. It is in every sense a democratic ticket, owing no allegiance to any political boss or political machine and will be responsible to the people only for the faithful and just discharge of their duties. Sensible of the fact that the business affairs of the municipal government should be carefully con served and wisely administered in the interest of the private citizen, it has chosen as its candidate for Mayor one whose record as a progressive, able and SUCCESSFUL business man stands second to none in this community, and whose private life and public record is without a stain. In the contest of last June THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE, recognizing the just claim of the laboring men of this community to representation, nominated and elected as a member of the legislature of this State from this County Joseph J. McCarthy, a high type of the laboring man and devoted to the interests of labor. In the present contest it has selected to represent labor in the city government two men of as high character and fine a sense of duty as the laboring men of this community have within their ranks, Julius B. Gaudry and Charles G. Wilkinson. Leaving aside, however, the question, of men, the present contest has riser o a great trial of principle and in such a contest THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE has grounded its appeal to the voter upon immutable principles of right and honest government which must appeal to every good and patriotic citizen.. It stands for rule by the peo ple, it stands for the suppression of vice and it stands for the impartial administration of law. In this contest as in the one of last June, the movement of the PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE to secure clean and honest government has met with bitter and unrelenting opposition from the only morning journal in this city. It has used and is using every effort to discredit and defeat the nominees of this party and, short only of the manly course of editorial endorsement, it is using every power that partisan zeal can inspire to retain in power a corrupt and discredited political machine. Laboring under this disadvantage we have resorted to this medium to present to the people of this city our claims to the support and confidence of the voters of this community. Resting secure in the thought that every man who values the good name of his city and regards the promptings of his conscience will lend us hi 3 active support, we heartily invite good citizen in this community to stand by us in the present con test and assist us to restore the government of the city to the hands of those to whom it belongs—the people.
