Resolutions can
be life-changing
I’ll confess that I'm not a big fan of New
Year's resolutions, but looking back over the
years, there is one that was life changing for
me.
I guess the one that sticks out in my mind
the most is a resolution that I made at the
prodding of my mother-in-law, Doris King. I
had been in and out of church since
my teenage years, but she kept on
encouraging me to go with her to
The Grove. To be honest, she wasn't
the only one dealing with me. God
was convicting my heart. So the
first Sunday in January in the early
1990s, I started a journey that would
change my life forever.
I truly committed my life to
Christ. Over the years, I've had
good times and I've had bad times,
but I have not journeyed alone. God
tells us that he will never leave us
nor forsake us, and I can testify to that. In
sickness, he’s been my healer. In grief, he’s
been my comforter. In need, he has been my
provider. Yes, he’s been the friend who sticks
closer than a brother. Now I haven’t been
perfect, but he has been faithful to forgive me
for my transgressions.
This week, I was reminded of how impor
tant it is to serve the Lord. It was not just
my life that was riding on my commitment,
but my family as well. As I began to go to
church on a regular basis, I realized some life
lessons.
If we are faithful to God, he will be faith
ful to us. Malachi 3:10 tells us to bring the
tithes into the storehouse and he will open
the window of heaven and pour out so many
blessings that there will not be room enough
for it. While this speaks of tithing, I believe it
to be true with time and talent as well. God
has always met my needs and poured out his
blessings on us as well. I have been happiest
when I've served God in my local church.
I've also learned that God will
answer our prayers according to
His will. Proverbs 22:6 says. Train
up a child in the way he should
go, and when he is old he will not
turn from it. I'll confess I probably
started going to church for the sake
of my children. I was brought up
in church, and I knew the impor
tance of bringing up my children
in church. Today, I praise God that
Zach is a man of God and working
in the church. As I had the oppor
tunity to spend a few days with
Zach this week, God brought all of this back
to my remembrance. To God be the glory.
As we ponder resolutions this week, may we
be spiritually minded. If we don't attend church
regularly, let us pledge to start attending on a
regular basis. If we don't read the Bible and
pray regularly, I am reminded that we need to
make God a part of each and every day. It we
are not faithful with our tithes and temporal
means, let us be reminded that we can mist
God.
May we realize our resolutions may be life
changing for us and for our families too!!
