in Easton, Pa., she was
the daughter of Sandra
Rachel Brown Schramm
and Eric Theodore
Schramm. She attended
George Walton High
School in Marietta. She
loved sports, especially
football, and was a devot
ed fan of the Georgia
Bulldogs and Atlanta
Falcons since moving
to Georgia. Her special
football team was the San
Francisco 49er’s since
early childhood. Lindy
enjoyed writing, coun
try music and concerts.
She was a devoted wife,
mother, grandmother,
sister and friend. She
will be greatly missed by
all that knew this won
derful lady.
Survivors include her
husband of 14 years,
Walter H. Mitchell, III,
Auburn; daughters, Angel
Idelle Carlisle and fiance
Dale Wiley, Buford, and
Swayae Rose Louise

band Cliff, Auburn; five

Shirley Ann Mumpower,
65, formerly of
Gainesville, passed
away Sunday, December
25, 2011, following an
extended illness.
She was born August
25, 1946 the daughter of
the late Thoyce and Opal
Allen and was a member
of the Redwine United
Methodist Church. Mrs.
Mumpower was pre
ceded in death by her
brother, Phil Allen.
Survivors include hus
band of 46 years, Jim
Mumpower; sons and
daughters-in-law, Chris
and Dawn Mumpower,
Flowery Branch, and
Jeff and Liz Mumpower,
Cleveland; son, Charlie

Alfred Quillian
WINDER - Alfred
A. Quillian, 85, former
attorney and United
States Administrative
Law Judge, died sudden
ly at his home in Winder,
Georgia on December
26, 2011.
Judge Quillian gradu
ated from Winder High
School. He volunteered
and served in the United
States
Navy dur
ing World
War II
and was
in the
United
States
Air Force
during the Korean
Conflict serving in the
JAG Corps. He graduated
from the University Of
Georgia School Of Law
in 1951 and joined his
father’s law practice in
Winder. Judge Quillian
served as Solicitor
General (known today as
District Attorney) for the
Piedmont Judicial Circuit
from 1957 to 1964. He
served as President of
the Georgia Solicitor
General’s Association.
After his service as
Solicitor General was
completed, he returned
to the private practice
of law with his brother,
Kelley J. Quillian, until
his brother’s appointment
to the Georgia Court
of Appeals. He con
tinued private practice
with his mother, Tabitha
S. Quillian, until his
appointment as United
States Administrative
Law Judge in 1973. He
retired from that position
in 1994.
He was a member of
the local Masonic Lodge,
Kiwanis Club, Gridiron
Society and Sigma Chi
Fraternity.
After his retirement,
he rediscovered his love
for golf and was beloved
by his regular foursome.
He was a lifelong fan
of University of Georgia
football. Judge Alfred
Quillian was known for
his sense of humor and
was a symbol of integrity
in both his personal and
professional life.
He was a member of
the Winder First United
Methodist Church where
he taught Sunday School
for many years. During
the church’s recent anni
versary celebration, he
was recognized as the
church’s longest active
member.
Survivors include
his wife of 62 years,
Elsie Harben Quillian;
a daughter, Kimberly
Q. Rogers and her hus
band, Wayne Rogers,
Watkinsville; son, Alfred
A. Quillian, Jr., his wife
Thea McGlon Quillian,
Atlanta; four grand
children: Ellen Rogers
Brown and her husband
Don Brown of Seymour,
Tenn., Jennifer Rogers of
Smyrna, Drew Quillian
and Kathleen Quillian,
Atlanta; and one great-
grandson, Coleman
Michael Brown,
Seymour, Tenn.; and a
sister Miss Alma Adelia
Quillian, Madison.
Visitation for friends
and family will be at the

Winder, on Wednesday,
December 28 from 6:00

Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Banks County
on November 24, 1940,
he was a son of the late
Inez Norton
Reems
and Ruben
Reems. Mr. Reems was a
member of Leatherwood
Baptist Church and was
retired from the road
department. He served
his country proudly in the
United States Air Force
during the Cuban Missile
Crisis. In his spare time,
he enjoyed fishing, gar
dening, dirt track racing
and watching NASCAR.
Mr. Reems was preceded
in death by a son, Marty
Reems; and brother, Fred
Lee Reems.
Survivors include
daughter, Amy Reems
Goss, Cornelia; brother
and sister-in-law, J.R. and
Ann Reems, Baldwin;
sisters and brothers-
in-law, Hazel and Joe

“Simon” Simmons, 63
died Friday, December
23,2011.
Born in Habersham
County on October
26, 1948, he was a son
of Beatrice Norton
Simmons and the late
William Simmons. Simon
was a fanatic Georgia
Bulldogs fan and spent
many Saturdays gathered
around the television
with his sons supporting
the Dawgs. He was also
a former youth football
coach who touched the
lives of many young men,
and an avid golfer. Mr.
Simmons was preceded
in death by a brother,
Glenn Simmons.
Simon was a member of
UnionHillBaptistChurch
of the Hollingsworth
Community. He was a
loving husband, father,
grandfather, son and
brother who enjoyed
spending time with his
family, especially his
two grandchildren.

Vandiver, 80, beloved
husband of Mrs. Helen

Vandiver,
went
home
to be
with his
Lord and
Savior,
Jesus
Christ on Sunday,
December 18, 2011 at
Athens Regional Medical
Center.
Mr. Vandiver served
his country proudly
from 1950-1954 with the
United States Air Force.
He worked with Dupont
from 1954 until his
retirement in 1988. Mr.
Vandiver was a member
of the Augusta Board of
Realtors and the Million
Dollar Club. He was also
a member of Gideons
International, and was
the Vice-Chairman of the
Columbia County Board
of Tax Assessors from
1976-1982. Mr. Vandiver
was a member of West
Acres Baptist Church
and the Love Sunday
School Class. On July
27,2008, he was honored
as a Deacon Emeritus by
the Deacon Fellowship
of West Acres Baptist
Church for serving our
Lord Jesus Christ and his
church for many years as
a deacon and as deacon
chairman.
In addition to his wife,
he is survived by a son,
Michael E. Vandiver
(Ruth); daughters,
Janice V. Braswell (Jim),
and Sharon V. Raborn
(Kenny); step-daughter,
Terry Bennett (Edwin);
brother, William Vandiver
(Sandra); sister, Eutelle
Yonce (Harry); sister-in-
law, Barbara Vandiver;
