Mr. Hufford was preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb Guy Chance Hufford; and granddaughter, Veronica Lynn Elliott. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and was retired from the fleet ser vice of American Airlines. Mr. Hulsey enjoyed playing golf, going to the beach, and read ing. He loved spending time with his family. Olga Lacey COMMERCE Olga B. Lacey, 95, died Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Peachtree Plantation. She was bom on August 2, 1917, in Struthers, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Mary Bolash. She was a vet eran of the United States Navy, having served as a Navy WAVE Spec T during World War II. Mrs. Lacey retired from Roper Pump Company. For many years, she also wrote a popular column. Around Town with Olga Lacey, for The Jackson Herald. She also served for many years on the Commerce Library Board, and was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club. Mrs. Lacey was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Allen Lacey, Sr.; and a daugh ter, Barbara Lacey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Smith Martin; and a son, Zachary Martin. Mr. Martin was a United States Army World War II Veteran, having fought in Normandy. He was a retired manager of Shirley Feed and Seed with 40 years of service. J.L. was a Mason and a mem ber of the Lula Lodge #352 F. & A.M. and was a Shriner. January 9, 2013. ‘Rip’ Wier JEFFERSON - Luther Paul “RIP” Wier, 88, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, sur rounded by his family at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens following a brief ill ness. Paul “RIP” was born in Jackson County, Jefferson, the son of the late Henry “T.C.” and Nina Eckles Wier. He was a graduate of Martin Institute, Jefferson, Class of 1942, and worked on the family farm with his father until 1955. Mr. Wier worked at Jefferson Mill until he retired in 1986. Since his retirement, he faith fully attended the Jackson County Senior Citizen Center in Jefferson. Paul was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and various other offices. He was a member of the Unity Lodge #36, where he served as Worshipful Master. He received his 50th year Masonic award. The Masonic Lodge will take part in the committal service. Mr. Wier was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred H. Wier, Richmond, Calif.; sister, Irene Howington, Jefferson; brother-in-law, William “Bill” Howington, Jefferson, and Lewis Harper, Decatur. Survivors include a brother, Gilbert L. Wier (Martha Sue), Jefferson; sisters, Lavenia W. Hall, (Tile O.) Jefferson, Ellie W. Harper, Decatur, and Carolyn W. Thurmond (Claudius D.) Jefferson; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.
