Focus on the Lord Over the past few days, I've real ized the enemy is wreaking havoc in the lives of good people. We know it rains on the just and the unjust. We also know there is a payday coming. God’s word tells me evil people will not continue to prosper. God's word tells me vengeance belongs to Him. With chaos going on our lives, how can we stand? When we see injustice in the lives of oth ers. how can we continue to encourage them? Really, we should not think it strange that these type situations are happen ing. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.’’ Scripture tells us the enemy is on a rampage. While John 10:10 advises us that the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” But praise God the verse does not end there. It ends with, “But I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Some of us may feel like we are fighting to keep the faith. Some of us may feel like we are fighting to hold onto a relationship with the Lord. I have good news from Hebrews 13:5 reminds us that the Lord will never leave us or forsake us. We are not in the battle by ourselves. The enemy wants to think that every one has left us. but we know God’s word is truth. No, we are never alone even in the darkest hours. Many have trials and tribulations that seem insurmountable, but they will pass or God will give us the grace to get through them. So how do we hold on and keep the faith during these times. While the obvious answer is to spend time growing in the Lord. Let us also be reminded of golden 1 xy-. sherry lewis We are not in the battle by ourselves. The enemy wants to think that everyone has left us, but we know God’s word is nuggets God told us in his word. Sometimes people, even friends, family, and Christians, hurt us. At other times, it’s those who seem to be our enemies who take the first blow. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that our battle is not with flesh and blood. Our battle is against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in heavenly places. So do we let these people off the hook? At times, we may want to pick up the cup of anger and unfor giveness, while can lead to bitterness. While it may be the hardest thing we’ll ever do, may we remember God let us off the hook. I don’t deserve heaven, but if any of us accept him as our Savior, it will be our eternal home. He tells us to forgive so we can be forgiven. Finally, 1 Peter 1:13 says, Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conform ing yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” Starting today, let’s take the focus off the people and off the problems. Let’s began to put our focus on Him. Let’s begin to ask him to show us the path to holiness which can be found through obedience to the Word. That’s when we’ll have abundant life, no matter what comes our way. Sherry Lewis is a resident of Maysville. She can be reached at bens coop @ aol. com.
