PAGE12A THE BANKS COUNTY NEWS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2013 TRAVEL NOTES Lagrange festival honors movies (NOTE: The latest in tourism news is featured in this col umn compiled by editor Angela Gary) Considered one of the nation’s premiere environmen tal and adventure film festi vals, the 11th annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival is com ing to LaGrange Tuesday, April 23. This incredible selection of films, focused this year on climate change, raises aware ness about the environmental challenges citizens face, sparks action, and supports solutions. Attendees will see award-win ning films about nature, com munity activism, adventure, conservation, water, energy and climate change, wildlife, environmental justice, agri culture, Native American and indigenous cultures. This year’s selections will not only take audiences to some of the most remote and beautiful places on the planet, but introduce them to the magnificent ani mals that inhabit these places and the courageous individu als who are working to protect and preserve both for future generations. The films instill a deep appreciation and a sense of wonder for the natural world that surrounds and supports us. The film festival will be held at the Carmike Cinema in historic downtown LaGrange beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and students are free. Reserved tickets are available in advance at jsistino@chatta- hoochee.org or at the door. The Chattahoochee Riverkeeper office in LaGrange will be the site for a pre-party, beginning at 5:30 p.m., of wine and beer tastings and appetiz ers before the films. The $30 admission fee includes the pre party, entrance to the film festi val, a one-year Chattahoochee Riverkeeper membership and registration to win a kayak. Rsvp to jsistino@chattahoochee.org. Balsam Inn Hosts Noted Songwriters Nationally acclaimed song writers Casey Kelly Leslie Ellis and Angela Kaset will be at Balsam Mountain Inn’s Songwriters in the Round. Kelly, Ellis and Kaset have captured numerous honors for their lyrics and music, includ ing Grammys and a national Songwriter of the Year accolade. The trio will share insights into their work while playing songs written for famous musicians, along with a few originals. Kelly has written for many of Nashville’s major acts and has been called “possibly the best songwriter in Nashville.” Ellis is an accomplished singer/song writer who won a Grammy for her vocals on Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” Kaset won the 1997 Country Songwriter of the Year Award from SESAC. Her new album, “Underneath A Vincent Van Gogh Sky” weaves a web of emotional ballads and bittersweet stories into a true snapshot of the artist. The monthly Songwriters ses sions take place in the dining hall of the historic inn. Ticket price is $45 per person and includes a gourmet dinner buf fet.
