The 10th annual Spring Vet Day was held at the Banks County Horse Arena Saturday. BY WESLEIGH SAGON The 10th annual Spring Vet Day event was held at the Banks County Horse Arena Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event featured pre ventative and routine care for horses, dogs and cats. A large crowd attended the event. Some of the services offered were teeth floating where the vet sands off the points on the back teeth so the horses can chew their food. Being that their jaw goes in a circular motion when chew ing, they can develop points on their teeth that cause them not to be able to eat and it can poke holes in the top of their mouth causing them to bleed to death. Coggins tests were also avail able for horses. This is to test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) which is a contagious virus that is transmitted by blood sucking insects or by using bits and other equipment on unvaccinated horses who have the virus. This diagnos tic test was developed by Dr. Leroy Coggins in the 1970s. Many other services were also available such as Deworming, vaccinations, cas trations, health certificates and flea and tick medications. The event was sponsored by the Banks Crossing Saddle Club and Dr. Eric Sjoberg of Maggie’s Menagerie.
