WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 201 3 THE BANKS COUNTY NEWS PACE 7A Social Local families spend a week in Barbados Sandra Gresham, Anita and Doug Armour, Kevin Parson, Trisha and Taylor Parson all enjoyed spring break week in Barbados. They had a great time. • Congratulations to Stephen and Haley “Crumley” Daniel who were united in marriage on April 6 in a garden wedding in Maysville and a reception at Gillsville Baptist Church. A host of family and friends were present to help celebrate this great day. We wish them a lifetime of hap piness. • Kylee Isabella Pace was honored with a small birthday party at the home of her grandparents, Mike and Willene Boyle and given by her parents, Michael and Christine Pace, Area News Willene Parson Boyle 706-677-4200 willene.boyle@windstream.net and brother, Trey. She also had her great-grandmothers, Ruth Parson and Shirley Boyle, present, as well as her great-great grandmother, Lois Ledford. We what to wish her a very special, happy third irthday. I have been telling you about my great dentist, well, this week my 4-year-old great niece, Jaden Lee Elizabeth Chitwood, had to have some dental work done. She went to see Dr. Joseph Clark and he fixed her problem. I think it is great when a 4-year-old leaves a dentist’s office telling the dentist, “good-bye, I love you, Dr. Clark.” Wish my experience at 4 had been that great. But all is good now. Loving my mile now. • Remember the family of Venable Merck this week. Venable passed away on Sunday. He leaves his wife, Dixie Merck, sons, Marcus Merck and Fredrick Dilbeck, daughters, Ashley Dilbeck and Tonya Fountain, grandchildren and great-grandchild, brother, Brad Merck, and a host of other family and friends. Venable was the owner of the Maysville Fish House. He was a United States Air Force veteran. He will be greatly missed. Gorham retires from JEMC board; Storey to step in Charles K. Gorham is retir ing from the Jackson Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) Board of Directors after 22 years of service. Shade Storey, a native of Jackson County, and divi sion senior vice president of Northeast Georgia Bank with 16 years of experience in the banking industry, has been appointed to fill Gorham’s unexpired term. A member of Jackson EMC since 1963, Gorham spent most of his professional career with Westinghouse, later ABB, in Athens, joining the board following the resignation of Aaron McKinney. He gradu ated from Auburn University with an engineering degree in industrial management, and received an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia. “Charles was the first engi neer to serve on the board of an engineering-driven organi zation,” noted Jackson EMC’s board chairman Otis Jones. “He not only brought that tech nical knowledge to his board appointment, but also an MBA’s keen eye for detail. I’ve never served with another board member who was more thoughtful on the issues, or more prepared for board meet ings. He has served this coop erative’s members well and unselfishly, becoming a board member at the height of the tremendous growth we experi enced in the ‘90s and the chal lenges that it brought with it.” “Shade brings to the board not only a strong financial background but also a solid understanding of Jackson County business issues, great strengths in a company such as ours that is impacted so much by both,” said Jones. Storey holds a bachelor’s degree in business adminis tration from North Georgia College and State University and a graduate degree in banking from Louisiana State University. He is vice chairman of the Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority, chair man of the Jackson EMC Foundation, member and for mer president of the Jefferson Rotary, member of the Jefferson Boom Town Initiative steering committee, member of the Georgia Cattleman’s Association and a volunteer with Friends of the Boy Scouts campaign. He has served as chairman of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, as a student men tor at Jefferson Middle School, a Tree House Turtle Trek vol unteer and as team captain for both Relay for Life and United Way.
