WEDNESDAY, MAY 1, 201 3 THE BANKS COUNTY NEWS PACE 5B School Head Start now taking applications Banks County Head Start/Pre-K is taking applications for the upcoming school year. “The program provides children with a learning environment and the var ied experiences which will help them develop socially, physically, intellectu ally and emotionally in a manner which is appropriate to their age and stage of development,” states Jan Bertrang, cen ter director. “The educational program includes experiences designed to meet the individual differences and needs of participating children.” The center is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are provided. The center does not provide transportation. HEAD START Enrollment is based on income eligi bility. Children must turn 3 or 4-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2013. When applying, parents or guardians are asked to bring the child’s birth cer tificate, proof of income (for the past 12 months, including W-2 and current check stubs), immunization form 3231, Social Security card (if available) and child’s insurance card (if available). PRE-K Enrollment status is on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must turn 4-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2013. When applying, parents or guardians are asked to bring the child’s birth cer tificate, proof of residency (utility bill, etc.), immunization form 3231, Social Security card (if available) and child’s insurance card (if available). WHITTINGTON WINS T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST Baldwin Elementary School fourth grader Maley Whittington (third from left) was the winner of the ‘A Baldwin Clean-Up Day’ T-shirt design contest held recently. The other top designers included: (L-R) Maria Gaspar, fifth grade; Caroline Way, fourth grade; Ashlyn Rose Benfield, fifth grade; Omar Torres, fifth grade; Nathan Molina, 3 rd grade; and Maria Villagomez, fifth grade. The volunteers who helped with clean-up day on April 20 received T-shirts with Whittington’s design on them. Honors day at Banks High School planned May 9 Banks County High School will hold Senior Honors Night on Thursday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the BCHS auditorium. The seniors honored will receive academic awards or scholarships. Last year, BCHS seniors received $250,000+ in accolades and scholarships.
