Trust in the Lord I’m a people watcher. I don’t mind sitting at the mall or at the park glancing around as peo ple come and go. Sure I’m a little inquisitive, but honestly I am most interested in their actions and attitudes. When I look into the faces, sometimes I can tell they have the weight of the world on their shoulders. Then there are others who look like everything is wonder ful, and they are literally miserable on the inside. It can be recognizable in the eyes and sometimes it takes a conversation. No matter where we find ourselves at this moment in time, if God is for us who can be against us! It just takes faith that God is going to bring us through any situation in which we find ourselves. Faith can change our for ever. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 16:31 says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved....you and your house hold.” Faith can also bring mir acles into our lives. In Mat thew 9:20-22 we read of a woman who had been sick for 12 years. She had exhausted every resource and she was still ailing. She knew she had to get to Jesus; he was her answer. “If I can just touch the hem of his gar ment, I will be made whole,” she proclaimed. She reached out, touched it and the Lord changed her life that very day. “Daughter, be of good com fort, your faith has made you whole.” From a worldly perspec tive, it seems it would take a large amount of faith for such an accomplishment, but we are not looking from a secular viewpoint. Jesus says, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you,” accord ing to Matthew 17:20. So why are mountains not moving in some of our lives? Doubt may be one reason. I’ve talked to some people who say they don’t deserve the favor of the Lord, while others believe for others but have a hard time believing for themselves. Oh friends, I have good news. The ground is level at the cross. What he has done for others he will do for you. In Matthew 8:24-26, we see Jesus was sleeping in a boat when a mighty storm began to roar. The disciples thought they were doing to perish and woke the Lord. Jesus asked, “Why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm. Just like I have done at times, they started to look at their circumstances instead of keeping their mind on the Lord. May we remember that He can calm or keep us during any storm. While we have all received a measure of faith, maybe we should seek God to perfect our faith. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hear ing by the word of God.” If we are serious about perfect ing our faith, we should seek the Lord. He is the “author and finisher of our faith.” As we begin to see example after example of God moving in the lives of others, we will realize He is faithful to move in our lives too. Faith will keep us. Think of David and Goliath in 1 Sam uel 17. David relied on God and he slayed the mountain called Goliath. What about Abraham? God promised him a son and once Isaac was born, God wanted him to offer his son as an offer ing. Abraham acted with faith because he knew God would make a way. In Gen esis, we see that both Abra ham and Isaac came back from the mountain. God pro vided a lamb in the thicket. My prayer is that we will seek the Lord to perfect our faith. As we grow in the Lord may we realize that He can be busted in every area of our lives. Sherry Lewis of Maysville is pastor at New Beginnings Ministry. She can be reached at bcnscoop@aoi.com.
