PAGE 10A BANKS COUNTY NEWS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2023 o o Cross Country: Pepper Davis qualifies for state By HANNAH CAUDELL The Leopards Cross Country team competed in the Ath ens Academy US Home Meet on Thursday, Oct. 19, and at the Georgia High School Association 2A Region 8 Race in order to place in the State Tournament Race on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4. In both races, senior Pepper Davis placed in the top 10 runners and placed second in the GHSA 2A Region 8 race, qualifying for the state meet. Saturday, Nov. 4,Davis will be competing in the GHSA State Cross Country Championships at 9:30 a.m. on the Carrollton Course at Carrollton High School. VS. ATHENS ACADEMY During the Athens Academy US Home Meet, Davis placed fifth with a time of 16 minutes and 57 seconds. On Thursday, he ran a time of 16 minutes and 38 seconds, placing second in the GHSA 2A Region 8 race. As one of the top six runners in a region meet, Davis once again qual ifies for the state championship race in Carrollton. For the boys, Andrew Pope, Jakub Cote, Zion Rathbun, Carlos Blanco also ran in the Athens Academy US Home Meet race, placing eighth as a team overall. For the girls, Senior Camdyn Poole, Bailey Baker, Melany Camarena, and Maggie Irvin competed. The results from the Athens Academy US Home Meet are as follows: BOYS •Pepper Davis placed 5th with a time of 16 minutes and 57 seconds •Andrew Pope placed 51st with a time of 20 minutes and 32 seconds •Jakub Cote placed 63rd with a time of 21 minutes and seven seconds •Zion Rathbun placed 105th with a time of 25 minutes and 23 seconds •Carlos Blanco placed 111th with a time of 38 minutes and lour seconds GIRLS •Camdyn Poole placed 22nd with a time of 24 minutes and 13 seconds •Bailey Baker placed 37th with a time of 25 minutes and 43 seconds -Melany Camarena placed 50th with a time of 27 min utes and 12 seconds •Maggie Irvin placed 51 st with a time of 27 minutes and 36 seconds During the GHSA 2A Region 8 race, Pepper Davis, Andrew Pope, Luke Lindemen, Zion Rathbun, and Car los Blanco competed, placing sixth overall. For the girls, Camdyn Poole, Bailey Baker, Maggie Irvin, and Melany Camarena competed.
