Spreading kindness
throughout our community
I remember growing up. My mom
would be cooking dinner and realize
she was about out of sugar or another
simple ingredient. The nearest grocery
store was as least 10 or 15 miles away;
I wasn’t old enough to drive and she
was in the middle of a chef’s master
piece. We didn’t think a thing about
taking a cup and running over to our
neighbor’s house to borrow a little
sugar. I’d take on that task because
I’d have a chance to visit with Dewitt
and Delores, and my request would be
greeted with a welcome, a smile, and I’d leave with more
than I had requested. There were always so kind to us. It
seems like my sugar borrowing days are over because I can
be at the store in five minutes, but our neighbors, friends,
family, and even strangers need kindness like never before.
I began to think about spreading kindness as the calendar
turns to November which always brings out the feelings of
thankfulness and gratefulness. The greatest part for Chris
tians is to recognize that we have an opportunity to be the
hands and feet of Jesus. We may show His love to the peo
ple He has put in our lives for a minute, for a season, or for
a lifetime.
Think about it. Who are the hinting people in our lives or
who are the ones that the Lord puts in our path? In James
1:27, scripture tells us to take care of the widows and or
phans. I’ve generally thought to help with these precious
ones when their dad, mother, or spouse has passed away.
When I thought about it on this very day, God reminded me
of those families who have a parent who is incarcerated,
who is desperately sick and unable to provide for the fami
ly, and others whose loved ones are in rehabilitation trying
their best to get clean and sober.
Then there are others in our large circle who are shut in,
lost family members, or lost their jobs. For those people,
the family traditions that were build long ago may crum
ble this year. Let us be the eyes of Jesus. I promise if we
keep out hearts open and clear our minds, Almighty God
will show us those who are in need when we don’t have a
clue. As we ride through about neighborhood may we take
a conscientious look at each house and think about their
situations. With these folks have a Thanksgiving meal?
Will these precious senior citizens feel the love of the Lord
during this holiday season? Wait for it; God will speak to
our hearts. We all know there are needs; we can depend on
Him to lead and direct.
Let’s talk about the strangers God may put in our paths.
We may be behind a lady in the grocery store, and she’s
so embarrassed when the grocery items cost more than the
money in her purse. She’s debating what she should put
back and what she can keep. Do we have the means to chip
in so she can take home everything she needs? We may
come across a Christmas tree with children’s names on it.
Maybe we could pick out a name and grant a wish. Those
folks may never know who you are in the chance encoun
ter, but I can promise you one thing. God knows who you
are. God knows you are ministering to the widows and or
phans. He knows you are lending a hand to the less fortu
nate. He sees you giving when no one will ever know your
name. Take heart my friend, God knows your name.
My prayer is that we will be about the Lord’s business.
God is going to create opportunities and it’s up to up to take
the next step. Our hearts will be full and we will be blessed.
