All are invited to attend, organizers state. Beaverdam Baptist is located at 1627 Hwy. 59, Commerce. Christmas Tour of Homes coming up in Maysville The Tumbling Waters Society will host its 2023 Maysville Christmas Tour of Homes on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 2-5 p.m. There will be four homes on the tour and shopping and hot chocolate and cook ies available downtown. Tickets are required for the tour. The four locations are: 30 North Main Street, 32 North Main Street, 9567 Gillsville Road and 960 Unity Church Road. There is no set order and participants may start at any house they prefer. Price for the entire tom is $20 per person. Tom tickets will be avail able at each of the houses the day of the tom, or if pre sale tickets are preferred, they can be pmchased from any TWS member, Bra- selton Realty in Jefferson, Aimee’s Closet in Mays ville or by calling Marie Godfrey at 706-340-5121. Payment for tickets is in cash or check to TWS only, organizers state.. Toys for Tots fundraiser to be held on Dec. 7 A Toys for Tots fundrais er will be held at AJ’s Piz za Pub from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thmsday, Dec. 7. MAILING LABEL THANKSGIVING FEAST AT BCPS Emma Barner is shown enjoying a Thanksgiving feast at Banks County Primary School. The BCPS Food and Nutrition Department served over 2,227 meals to students and their families over three days. On Tuesday, 488 students and 247 adults were served; on Wednesday, 478 stu dents and 286 adults were served; and on Thursday, 477 students and 251 adults were served. Baldwin tree lighting to kick off Christmas season Christmas events in Baldwin, Maysville, Lula and Gills ville are coming up this weekend. A Christmas event is also planned later in December in Homer. BALDWIN The City of Baldwin will be hosting a Christmas tree lighting on Friday, December 1, at 6:30 p.m. There will be free hot cocoa, photos with Santa and Christmas carols by the Baldwin Elementary School Choir. MAYSVILLE The Maysville Community Club will hold Christmas in the Park on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.. The event will include vendors, hot chocolate and music. There will be free Santa photos and other fun events, organizers state. HOMER The Downtown Development Authority and Town of Homer are sponsoring Christmas on the Farm from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9. The event will include craft and food vendors, a hay ride, games and a visit from Santa. MedLink opens new facility in Banks A new MedLink Georgia office has opened in Banks County. MedLink Georgia is a non-profit federally qual ified community health center providing healthcare to over 51,000 Georgians in rural areas and serving Northeast Georgian com munities since 1979. The new 16,000 square foot Banks County facility offers primary healthcare for patients of all ages, as well as an imaging center, behavioral health, in-house pharmacy, diabetes educa tion and nutrition counsel ing, and a community train ing room for educational healthcare classes and com munity use. At the ribbon cutting last week at the new facility, Dave Ward welcomed ev eryone and said MedLink is “excited to be able to pro vide the Banks County area with family care, pediatrics, imaging, diabetes and nutri tion, behavioral health and County a pharmacy with drive thru services. MedLink is located at 112 Banks Road, Commerce, just off of U.S. Hwy. 441 in Banks County. MedLink Georgia has 25 locations. Banks BOE approves hiring of new employees By ANGELA GARY The Banks County Board of Education approved several new hires at its November meeting. Those hired were: •Tommy Crawford, maintenance. •Emma Gentry, paraprofessional. •Lexus Cash, paraprofessional. •Tammy Osier, paraprofessional. •Haley Holcomb, teacher. •William “Will” Bryan, teacher. In other business, the BOE approved the following: •a request from Banks County High School (BCHS) Ref uge Archery to utilize the BCHS 2.0 Gymnasium for Geor gia S3DA Indoor State competition on February 17, 2024. •field trip request from BCHS Boys’/Girls’ basketball to visit Panama City, Fla., December 27 -31, 2023. •a request from Banks County Elementary School (BCES) PBIS to sponsor student pictures to be taken and available for parents to purchase and be used for yearbook and snacks for faculty and staff members to purchase Au gust, 2023 - May, 2024. •Banks County Primary School (BCPS) to sponsor sale of tee shirts to first grade students, November 27- May 30, 2023. Many local Methodist churches approved to disaffiliate from UMC The North Georgia Con ference of the United Meth odist Church voted to allow the disaffiliation of 261 churches, including a num ber in Northeast Georgia, at its annual meeting last week in Athens. The split is rooted in in ternal disagreements over the church’s handling of LGBTQ issues among other theological and cul tural issues. Some of the disaffiliated congregations plan to affiliate with new, more conservative national church groups.
