Nova Aguilar received the REACH Scholarship Award on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Aguilar plans to major in cosmetology and
become an entrepreneur to own her own business.
Eighth-grader Keely Franks of Lula was named outstanding
middle school student of the year at Tallulah Falls School.
Jackson EMC
opens applications
for Washington
Youth Tour
Jackson Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is ac
cepting applications for the annual Washington Youth Tour,
sponsored by the nation’s electric cooperatives. Jackson
EMC will send four student delegates on an all-expense
paid leadership development experience to Washington,
D.C., June 14-21.
Alondra Paramo Andrade received the REACH Scholarship Award on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Paramo Andrade plans to major in
pediatrics and become a pediatric nurse.
Current high school sophomores and juniors in the Jack-
son EMC service region who have demonstrated leader
ship potential, academic success and community service
may apply directly online at www.jacksonemc.com/wyt.
Students can be nominated by their high school guidance
counselor or teacher, as well.
Applications must be received at Jackson EMC by 5 p.m.
on January 31.
Finalists will interview with a panel of business, com
munity and university leaders on February 19 to be cho
sen as one of Jackson EMC’s four delegates to receive the
Washington Youth Tom leadership experience.
Sponsored by the nation’s electric cooperatives since
1958, the Washington Youth Tom is a weeklong, intensive
tom designed to build leadership skills while educating
young people about the cooperative business model. In ad
dition to toms of the national monuments, highlights on
the experiential trip featme a wreath-laying ceremony at
the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National
Cemetery, a Sunset Parade at the Imo Jima statue, a cruise
on the Potomac River, visits to the Smithsonian museums,
and meeting the Georgia congressional delegation.
