Out with the old and in with the new
It’s a brand-new year and for some
reason it is like a reset. While it is
a great time to reflect on 2023, it is
also a time to ponder on how we can
be better in 2024.
The most important place to start
is to reflect on our relationship with
the Lord. At times we all search for
and followed through with God’s
will for our lives, but sometimes we
question Him because it’s a walk
by faith rather than sight. It is so
important to pray for wisdom and
discernment to keep us on the correct
path. James 1:5 tells us that if we lack
wisdom to ask God, and He will give
it to us.
Let’s start out or continue to ask God
for wisdom and He will keep us on the
right track. When the main thing re
mains the main thing, God promises to
give us everything we need according
to His perfect will, according to Mat
thew 6:33.
Everything is not always going to go
our way in the upcoming year, but I
have God’s promise found in Matthew
6:33. “Seek ye first His kingdom and
righteousness, and
all things will be giv
en unto us,” accord
ing to His perfect
will. When God is
our priority, He will
give us the strength
to cast fear and doubt
aside. He will give
us the grace to walk
in love even when it
may look impossible
to some people. God
is the one who will show us how to
forgive rather than let anger and bit
terness try to bring us down. Proverbs
16:3 tells us, “Commit thy works unto
the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be es
tablished.”
When we reflect on our speech, a
question comes to mind. Do we speak
positivity or negativity in our lives?
For instance, “I don’t see how we are
going to make it,” or “I’m never going
to overcome this sickness.” Scripture
tells us the power of life and death is
in the tongue. Let’s change our speech
so everyone knows our trust is in the
Lord God Almighty. “I’m going to
make it because my God will meet my
needs according to His riches in glo
ry,” or “I’m not sure how or when God
is going to heal me, but by His stripes I
am healed.” Let’s go ahead and praise
Him for what He is going to do! By
faith we know it is coming!
Dining 2024, I pray we will pick
up God’s word like never before. The
Holy Bible is our roadmap for life. He
tells us all the do’s so we will know
abundant life in Him. He will also tell
us the do nots, so we will not walk in
a way that leads to destruction. The
Word of God will show us how to
thrive in this life, and it will guide us
into our eternal home in heaven where
we will be with Him forevermore.
Let’s rejoice for all that God has in
store for us in this brand-new year. My
prayer is that we will make God a pri
ority, live in obedience with His word
and keep the faith knowing that He
will go with us every step of the way.
