Junior deputy program offered by BCSO
Banks County youth learned through a recent program
what is involved in being a deputy. The Junior Deputy
program was held with students learning about the work
involved in the job.
The program included a lesson from the H.E.R.O. Unit
with leaders teaching students what it takes to be a Banks
County Deputy. Students also learned about other law en
forcement agencies when officails with the Georgia State
Patrol and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation stopped
by. The program also included physical fitness training.
Another part of the program was hands-on learning
which was conducted by mock traffic stops on other
students. Sergeant Coombs completed a motor course
demonstration and Forensic Manager Willis taught the
Junior Deputies about crime scene processing.
The program also included a visit by officials with the
Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The class also
took a trip to the Banks County 911 Center, the detention
center and the courthouse.
Junior Deputies learned how important dispatchers are
in emergency response, received a tour of the Detention
Center from Sergeant Chamblee, and learned about court
security from Sergeant Milligan, Corporal Bohannon, and
Deputy McClain. Judge Currie Mingledorff, Clerk of Su
perior Court Tim Harper, and employees of the District
Attorney’s Office explained their roles in the judicial pro
cess.
The program ended with a lesson on de-escalation,
searches, and team movement and a K9 demonstration
from Banks County deputies.
The final activity was a visit from Banks County Fire &
EMS to teach about fire safety and close out the day with
some fun in the water.
“We ended the week with a graduation and awards cer
emony to recognize each student’s hard work,” officials
report. “Thanks to everyone who made this year’s Junior
Deputy program possible.”
The conclusion of the Junior Deputy program included a vis
it from the Banks County Fire Department where students
were able to cool off.
