Dealing with disappointment
As I look around, talk to people, talk
to strangers in the check out lines, and
even in my own life there are times
that we are disappointed by people,
the way situations work out, or a hun
dred other things.
As I write, a thought swirls into my
head. I ask myself. How can I be dis
couraged? I woke up today and I felt
great; I have a great day planned with
Chris, so disappointment did not rear
its ugly head today. Although there are
others times when I don’t feel well,
when people don’t live up to “my”
expectations, and negativity starts to
enter my mind. That is the moment
I need to stand tall and gaze towards
heaven and realize life is good.
Jesus had the opportunity to become
disappointment many times in His life.
I think of the time when Peter denied
him, the time where Judas betrayed
Him, and the time he asked his disci
ples to pray before he was crucified,
and he came back to find them sleep
ing. Although the Lord never looked
to people in difficult times, He kept
His eye on the Father.
While Jesus was an overcomes, let’s
look at how we can rebuke disappoint
ment and get it out of our lives. First,
let us keep in mind that we are pil
grims in this land; we are just passing
through.
Philippians 3:20 reminds us, “we are
not citizens of this
world, we are just
passing through.”
I remember go
ing on vacations,
and it was great to
spent time away,
but it was always
so wonderful to
get back home. It’s
the same with us.
We have known
some joy in this
land, and we prob
ably don’t even realize, what a mag
nificent day it will be when we get
to our heavenly home. We will never
ever want for anything, and we will
meet our Savior face to face. So if you
are struggling right now it is time to
turn our face towards heaven. That is
truly our home, and He is the one who
will give us the strength to encourage
ourselves in Him.
Next, it’s important that we do not
judge ourselves by worldly standards.
I know that is a tough one because
people give
opinions by the wayl
they act and by what
they may say about
it. First Peter 2:9 re
minds that we are a
peculiar people; we
are chosen by God,
so don’t expect to please the world. It
says, “But you are a chosen people, a
royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s
special possession, that you may de
clare the praises of him who called
you out of darkness into his wonderful
light.”
This is a wonderful verse to pon
der on when disappointment tries to
consume. We are God’s special pos
session, and He brought us out of the
darkness of this world into Him beau
tiful light.
Today, my goal is to remind us to
keep our eyes on Jesus, He will nev
er let us down. Next, let us remember
that we are just passing through this
old world, and glory to God, our home
is in heaven.
He loves us and He is the one that
will keep us and help us to rise above
the way people may treat us. May we
always remember He loves us with
an everlasting love that will not be
erased. So be encouraged my brothers
and sisters in Christ.
