Judge Scott Chastain, the
Council’s current president,
presented the award to
Hatchett on the Council’s
behalf.
“Senator Hatchett has
truly been a friend to the
probate judges across Geor
gia,” said Judge Chastain.
He adds, “As evidence
of this, during this year’s
legislative session, Senator
Hatchett was the Senate
sponsor of House Bill 180,
which provides for an addi
tional qualifying affidavit
for candidates of the office
of the judge of the probate
court in counties with a
population of 90,000 or
more.”
The bill, Chastain not
ed, closes a legal loophole
and ensures only those who
meet the necessary qual
ifications may run for the
office.
“This bill closes a legal
loophole, which will allow
only those individuals who
meet the necessary quali
fications to run for the of
fice,” Chastain said.”
He adds, “Senator Hatch
ett was a fierce advocate for
this much needed piece of
legislation. We thank him
for his tireless efforts in
passing HB 180 and for his
service to all of the citi
zens of Georgia.”
The Legislative Recog
nition Award is presented
annually by the Council’s
leadership.
