and which will be entirely independent. Field Marshal Count von
Walderse’s duties will be to select the points in China which may serve

The Facts Plainly Show
That It Was a Case
of Kill Or Be
K illed.
W illiam Cash, colored, shot asd in
stantly k lied Harry Armstrong, also
olored, about 9:30 o’clock las night, iu
the saloon of Mr. Chas, Walters, on
Bay stieet, opposite the Bay lion
Works.
It seems that these two uegroes bad a
quarrel some days ago, and Armstioug
had made tbreais on the life of Cash.
Last night Armstrong, armed with a
kune, went about the city looking for
< ash, and be found him in the above
siaitd saloon, where he is employed,
l'be negro at once drew hU knite and
made for Cash, who pulled bis pistol
and began shooting He fired three
shots, but only one took effect
the ball entered under the left arm
and pss.ed through the heart, killing
him Instantly. Casn saw his man drop
and then made lis escape hut later re
turned and gaye himself up to Officer
Isaac Smith and was placed in the coun
ty jail.
Gorooer Jenningt wus notified and
at onca summoned a jury, but after
bring in eesaiuii for some time no ver
dict was reached, and tbe jury was
ordered to meet at the ooronar's office
tomorrow afternoon at four o’clock,
when some more eye witnesses w ill ap
paar.
From facts gathered by a Times-
Call reporter, it seems certain that
f?.sb did tbo shoaling in selfdefenoe.
Armstrong, the dead negro, has a
very bad reputation end has only
recently been reba;ed from the peni
tentiary, while Cash is well known
and has always enjoyed a good repu
tation, and the fact that he returned
and gave himself up to the iffijer, is
more strong evidence that he shot hie
man only to eave his own 1 fe.
It is a so understood that Armstrong
had a quarrel! In the acre a few min
utes before tbe killing and made an at
tempt to cut Pete Il dgon and would
have done so,had it not been for Jerry
Hampton, who was a bystander, and
pulled bis pistol, Armstrong then
ran, and went direotly to the saloon
where Cash is employed.
