2 Jn the dedal World . MARY M’NlSfi BURROUGHS, Koitob. THE WIND BLOWS EAST. The wind blows east, the wind blown west— The wind blows where it lifteth best— But whether I muy laugh or cry, What cares the wind a-wbistling by? The rain falls fast-the rain falls free— The rain stays not for you or me— And whether rain brings joy or jutin, What cures for that the rockless rain? In ridge and rift the white Hakes sift, ▲ud pile themselves in downy drift; With a spotless pall they cover all— Alike o’er fair and foul they fall. And, Held or town, the sun shines do*vn On palace roof and cottage brown— On great and &mall God’s sunbeams fall, And Love divine la over all. —Selected.
