TIIK BRUNSWICK TIMES-CALL, AUGUST 28, ISOO,
FIRST COTTON SHIP,
It IVili Arrive in Brunswick Esrly
Next Month .
The average buxiues3 man always
looks forward to the ootton season
with delight, because it means a re
vival of ■ trade, and especially to the
retail merchants is this news gratify
ing. A reporter was informed last
night that the flrst cotton ship would
arrive eirly rext month for the John
son line. This company is the only one
doir g a cotton business here now, but
the rumor about an other shipping con
cern will not down. Two companies
like the Johnson’s would, indeed
make things lively in Brunswiek this
winter.
VERY HEALTH Y.
Considering the fact that the present
is always the sickly season in Brans
wiok, the oity is in a very healthy
condit on. \V t'l the exc*p'ion of a
few cises of fever there is no sickness
to speak of.
If the oity authorities will just en
force the law shout outting down
weed*, this will be the healthiest sum
mer on reoord.
A DANGEROUS PRACTICE
A number of young boys who are in
the habit of going in swimming along
the river front are going to get drowned
unless their parents take them in hand.
Some of llie youngs’ers venture out into
the middle of the stream just to see how
far they can swim, and it is very danger
ous. They ere liable lo take cramps.
The Chattanooga Brewing Go. has
been delayed in the opening @f its
branch here, but everything will be
ready within the next few days.

Capt. Newman Makes Latorj
Unions a Proposition
Wants to Have the Exercises
Held at the Fair
Grounds.
Manager T. Newman, of the South
eastern Fair Association, has made the
labor unions an excellent proposition
and one that will in all probability be
accepted. Mr. Newman wants the labor
day exercises to occur at the fair grounds
aad promises to arrange some excellent
spo t for the occasion. In the event the
proposition of Manager Newman is
agreeable to the unions, there will he
horse racing, bag races, diving for moriy
in a tub of syrup, and many othir amus
ing things. If Mr. Stetson Fleming’s
horse, Bay V ew, is well enough theie
will protub’y be a race with a horse
from Camden county fi r JSOO a side.
Mr. Newman had a letter from a gentle
man in Camden some days ago oilerlrg
to race any horse in Brunswick for this
amount, and if Mr. Fleming will agree
to run his horse the money will be put
up at oDce. The Times-Caii, hopes that
the unions will act favorably ou the
proposition of Manager Newman.
THINGS IN GENERAL.
News Notes and Comments of Genera)

In Sunday’* Constitution, Mr. C. VV.
Doming had a page write-up of the
recent raoe trouble in Liberty county,
and those who did not. have the pleas
ure of reading' it, should certainly get
a oopy of the paper at oMSWt Dom
ing handles the peu in a masterly
manner, and is rapidly forging to the
front rank of Southern writers.
A gentleman took occasion to cures
out the newspapers some daye ago in
the presence of the Times-Cai.l, and a
short time afterwards h“ came by the
offloe and aski and tba city etiuor to
“drop in a loca.' 1 saying he hed gon
away for severat days I r is needless
to ,ay (hit the local was not “dropped
in,” and never will be.
Nearly all of the confectionery and
soda water establishments were open
on Sunday, and they 1 11 cid a rushing
business.
Whenever you hear a man kicking
about taxes, pubi c < fficea, etc., it is
safe to say that what be owns in a
town can be carried away in a hand
ba.ket. I know a man here in Bruns
wick who is simply “agin” every
thing. In every movement, he has
more to say than anybody else; he is
always questioning somebody’s hon
esty, and this same man was never
known to psy an honest debt in his
life. Rounder.
