MARY M’NISH BURROUGHS, Editor.
THE ESHT.ISH I AVUL'AOE.
We’ll begin with <v bo*, nd ttn: p!ar*l l boxes
But tbe plurslof ox ebon Id be turn. not oxes;
Then one fowl gooss, but two *re celled
Kecee,*
Yet tbe plnrel at mouse should never be meat;;
Yon may find a lone mouse, or a whole net of
mice
But the plural of bouee it houses, not htoe;
If the plural of man la always called wan.
Why shouldn't tbe plural of pan lie called
pen?
The cow In tbe plttral may be cow* or bine.
And tbe plural of vow 1* Vow a, not t Inc.
And If I speak of a foot and yon allow me your
. feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair lie called
beet?
If one i* a tooth and a whole act ia teeth,
Why shouldn’t the plural ofblolh be heeth?
If the singular Is this and the plural is these,
should the plural of kiss bo nicknamed kneeae?
Then one may he that and three would bo
those,
Yet hat in plural would never bo hoaa,
And the plural of cat Is cats, not cote.
We speak of a brother and aleoof brethren,
But we say mother, we never say methren;
Then tnnaeuline pronouns are ho, his and hi m
Hut Imagine the feminine,she, this and shim.
Bo the English, 1 think, you all will agree,
Is tbe most wonderful language you ever did
see,

people ••cgtin seme benefit of
the presencflfc wra.
Adjataat his doubts as to
whethsr it would be a good plan to ask
the legislature at the oenutrg session for
an appropr ation for encampments. Mr.
Byrd is of tbe opinion that it would be
better to wall awhile before making any
farther requests of tbe general aastm
bly, aait was such a bard matter to get
the prasent appropriation.
Bpeakteg of tbe matter, Mr. Byrd
said: >vf ,
“I.Ao not think'.lß wou and be wise to
ask for an appropriation ihls year for
the purpose of a state encipment. You
see, the s’ate letrying the soldiers to see
what they Will do. It was with great
difficulty that the present appropriation
was secured, and I think it Would be
best to wait before asking for more
money. As the ma ter stands at proa
ent, the slate is furnishing the'troyps
with all nesessary equipment and uni
forms, and is paying armory rent,
‘•lt would cost the state many thous
ands of dollars to establish the state en
campments again, especially when it ia
necessary to the traveling expenses
of the different companies from their
home stations to Grffln and return. If
it could be arranged so that each regi
ment could camp somewhi.re near its
headquarters, or somewhere in its own
territory, I think it would be better.”
