Negro Arrested Near Macon is Not
Conductor Latimer’e Slayer.
The Macon Evening News of Friday

was arrested near Barnesvi’le as Con
ductor Latimer’s slayer:
“The negro who was brought here
yesterday from Barneiville, and who
was supposed to be ths man who mur
dered Conductor Latimer, proved to
be the wrong man. That is he was
carried to tbe Southern depot yester
day where ha was closely examined by
a negrogui'tcr who it is said is ac
quainted with ’William and he ]
pronounced the negro as nor the one
wanted.
The negro was also carried to Er
nest’s brickyard where be olaimed to
have worked, and It was found there
that be had stated the truth aa he bad
worked there at tbe time he had stat

the negro down tbe Southern road aa
he was not the one who had oomraitted
the orime.
“Mr. Jackson, tbe man who arrested
Wilson, tbe name whiob tbe negro de

until someone is caught and provm to
be tbs man wanted, he will believe (hat
Wilson is the right one.
“Tbe negro answers the description
in everything but bis clothes and
weight. Tbe clothes could easily hav
baen changed, and as the negro claim
to have been sick for about two weeks
be oonld easily have lost tbe weight
which it is said be laoks of being as
heavy as Frey. The negro's own state
ments of tbe hardships he has passed
through was of sulTloient natore to re
duce his flesh to even a greater amount
than what he could have weighed at
tbe time of tbe murder.”
