SUNDAY THOUGHTS
(From the Outlook.)
It la a matter of prime importance
whether a man collects the of
life about him or gives it formfaad com
pleteness by the working out of his own
nature. The house which has been dec
orated and furnished out of hand by an
expert holds a relation to its owner very
different from that, which is held by a
house which represrnts his individual
taste and has been conformed to his in
dividuality. True preparation for or
*WP
derly, beautiful and dignified ways of
living must be made within a man,
There Is an attractive power In char
acter which we ra-ely understand, but
which is the key to outward prosperity
of all kinds. The happening* of life lie
in wait all along the highway until tha"
person to whom they belong by natural
affiliation appears, and then instantly
attach themselves to him. To the pas
sionate, lawless and violent, things of
kindred nature are always hastening
with swift unerring feet. The fates are
asleep until we awaken them; the
njvercome unsougb'; ihey await our
invitation and are powerless until we
open the doorto them. The witches on
the blasted heath predicting greainess
to Macbeth, did not destroy a noble na
ture. Kunqub heard the same fateful
words, but the doors of bis spirit were
locked and bottled by loyalty and in
tegrity and over him the evil spirits had
no power whatever. Macbeth had long
been making ready for them, and their
words of fate fell ln’o a quiet soil. Ail
his lffe the future murderer ajpd tyrant
had by his thoughts and Iheltnations,
been Inviting the day when, in the
storm of battle, his own life should be
extinguished as merclless'y as behftd
put out the light of other lives.
Evil is sown for the evil, violence fof
the violent, as light is sown for the
righteous: in the end every man faces
himself in the harvest he has to reap,
and no man reaps what he has not sown.
The unselfish and living who serve and
waif, are often astonished by the affec
tion they evoke. They are always sow
ing the seeds of unselfishness, and the
Iruits of their sweetness and devotion
follow them In love and friendship.
If one longs for a noble and harmon
ious life, with all the happiness it
brings, let him diligently and prayer
ful prepare his own character for these
great prosperities.
