The Macon Evening Neves of Monday
■lid:
The county eomm'ssloner* met Sat
urday afternoon at the office of Mr. G.
M. Davis on Mulberry street in
a call meeting, the object of which was
to discus* the Symons bill which pro
vides for a state board of health.
After reading the bill carefully go
ing ovor it section by section, it
was decided that that it wm too
lengthy and cumbersome tor the
wants of tbie county, and Mr. Walter
G. Smith, the county attorney, was
instructed to draw up a bill that would
meet the demands of this county, and,
If possible, present the same to this
session cf the legislature.
The object of the bill is to provide
lor a state board ot health, so that the
county wIU have fu 1 power to act in
handling all kinds of infections and
contagious diseases in tbeout of town
districts or tho county.
The comm Issimiers found several ob
jections to the bill, as it attempted to
deal with the situation in every eoun>j
in the state. Attorney Smith will draw
up a bill and if possible wU cochins it
with that of Mr. Symons'.
Ones, alien of the Symons bill pro*
vide* that the county commissioners
shall work in connection with the
mayor and council in matters of the
kind. The commissioners obloeted to
Ibis, as they say too many bonaes ruin
things.
The meeting was quite a lengthy one
and every member present took a deep
interest in it, lor they rcalked that the
matter was a moot important ono, and
tho? wish to go carefully, as itey did
not desire that any mistake should be
made."
The bill In Ui present share is a
good one, but rather than loso the
chance of passing it, Mr, Bymoni will
probably agree to some change-,.
