tendentftof an election held on the tenth day of
December, A. i). 1901, for four uMermen of the
city of Brunswick, Georgia, for the ensuing
term, de certify that the total number of ballot*
east at oeid election i* tto3 and that A. L Frank*
lin,a candidate for aldermen, received 502
votes, aud that M. Kaiser, fa a candidate for
alderman, received 854 votes, and that W. 1).
Cook, a candidate, for alderman, received .*44>
votes, and that W. S. Taylor, a candidate for
alderman, received 314 votes, and that W. M.
Tupper, a candidate for alderman, received
297 votes, and that W. K. Dart, a candidate for
aldermen, received 28R votes, aud that C. L.
Parker, a candidate for alderman, received 2.14
votes,and that A. V. Wood, a candidate for
alderman, received 1 vote,and that ballot*
were throwa out for irregularities, and we tot

Washington, Deo 12,—Representa
tive Brantley, was at the War depart
ment yesterday to aee the chief of en
gineer*, General GUletpe, relative to
obtaining an inside passageway for
river boats over the Altamaha to
Brunewiok, The Ooonee and the Ock
mnlgee river* form the Altamaha, and
all three of these rivers are navigable,
and have boat* plying on them. At
present tbs only outlet for these boats
to the ooean is at Darien, the moutb of
tbe Altamaha river, at wbiob point
they can make no oonneotion with New
York steamers, as none touch there.
The result is that these boats endeavor
to get to Rronswiok where they oan
make their New York oonneotione. but
tbe only way they can get to Bruns
wick is through St. Simon eonnd,
which is too rongb for them, and sev
eral of them have beeu lost in the
sound. Geptain Gillette, engineer in
charge of the Savannah district, eay*
it le entirely feasible to oonneot the
Altamaha river with Brunswick by an
Ineid* route that will not coat more
than SB,OOO. Ae says tbat he baa been
over tbe route, and all that la neces
