Local kids shine in musical revue
More than 60 aspiring Broadway
stars, ages five to 18, light up the
Ritz Theatre stage in a musical revue
that showcases all their hard work in
the first-ever Summer Musical Theatre
Camp offered by Golden Isles Arts and
Humanities Association (GIAHA).
“Give My Regards to Broadway” is
an all-singing, all-dancing revue that
features the young campers in GIAHA’s
new program, under the direction of
Julia Nolan and choreographed by Traci
Mattea Sproull. Public performances at
the Ritz in Downtown Brunswick are
scheduled Friday, July 25, at 4 p.m. and
7 p.m., and Saturday, July 26, at 1 p.m.
Admission is $3.
GIAHA has offered acting on stage
theatre camps for young people for a
decade, taught by professional actress
and GIAHA Executive Director Heath
er Heath. In 2007, Heath connected
with Julia Nolan, a professional actor-
singer-dancer who has recently relo
cated to the Golden Isles after several
years touring the world with many top
acts and appearing in television com
mercials (including the singing voice of
the Maybelline ads).
Nolan was eager to communicate
her skills to aspiring stage performers
in the area, and the idea for a musi
cal camp was bom. Nolan brought in
dancer-teacher Traci Mattea Sproull,
owner of Studio South, a dance instruc
tion studio also located in Downtown
Brunswick, to help teach the camp and
mold the show.
Response to the intensive two-week
camp was tremendous, with more than
60 kids signing up. As a result, Nolan
and Sproull have been grateful for the
volunteer assistance provided by some
of the campers’ parents, as well as some
of Studio South’s older dance students.
“Give My Regards to Broadway” will
feature about 20 well-known numbers
from the musical stage, including songs
from the plays Wicked, Cabaret, Oliver,
West Side Story, and The Sound of
Music. For information, call 912-262-
6934. □
