A week without baseball is like a
week without sunshine! I even missed
the All Star game in order to work
with the election! Only a couple more
days and they will be back playing
again - hopefully my beloved Braves
will be playing better in the second
half. I still can't believe that Beth sat
in the dentist's office with John Smoltz
a couple of weeks ago and didn't get me
an autograph. I really thought I had
raised her better than that!
There are still some Vacation Bible
Schools scheduled this month so look
around and enjoy a special week with
your little people.
The Georgians Quartet from Valdos
ta will lead a Gospel Sing at Glyndale

and proud great grandmothers are
Bobbie Jean Harper and Jackie Ham
ilton.

death of W.C. Westberry.
I was terribly disappointed at the
voter participation in our election this
week. Several leadership positions in
local and state government were set
tled at this Primary election due to no
other party opposition in the General
Election in November. Voting is a great
privilege and responsibility and we are
so blessed to live in a country where
we can vote without fear from those
who might disagree with our choice.
Election officials have made it so conve
nient and easy to vote absentee by mail
- in person - early - late - rain or shine!
There is a runoff on August 5 so check
your calendar NOW and be a part of
selecting our leaders. Many thanks to
the wonderful dedicated poll workers
who gave their time and talents to our
community.
GOD BLESS AMERICA. □

Red Cross recognizes life savers
Summer Waves lifeguard Chad
Strickland was scanning the wave
pool in June when he spied a young
girl in distress.
Floating on a raft in the pool, the
12-year-old from Savannah was hav
ing a seizure. Chad quickly pulled
her to the “beach” area at the shal
low end, where he observed that she
was not breathing and had no pulse.
Other lifeguards on the Summer
Waves team administered CPR and
were able to revive her before the
EMTs arrived to transport her to the
hospital.
Summer Waves is an authorized
provider of Red Cross lifeguard train
ing, and all of the lifeguards had
Members of the Summer Waves team from left: Chris Brown, Andrew
Ratteree, Chad Strickland, and Ben Taylor.
“Ginger brought a wealth of account
ing and payroll experience to our team,”
said Lisa Morgan, director of Finance.
“Her responsibilities now include the
budget process and monthly variance
analysis, the payroll functions and
some of the accounting functions, and
I believe that she will do a fantastic job
in her new role.”
Wallen is the daughter of Cynthia
Beggs of St. Simons Island and the
late Rudolph Beggs, a former long
time comity extension agent in Glynn
County. She and her husband David
have been married 13 years and have
two children, Sarah, 11, and Jeffrey,

In early July, the Southeastern
Coastal Georgia Chapter presented
the lifeguards with a Red Cross cer

saving skills that saved a human life.
The local chapter has also applied for
the National Red Cross Certificate of
