Millage rate public hearings scheduled The Glynn Comity Board of Educa tion has scheduled three public hear ings to gather input on adopting the millage rate it levies to provide educa tional services to the system's 12,000 students. The first and second public hear ings will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respec tively. The third and final public hear ing will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2008. All public hearings will be held in the Administration Building Board Room at 1313 Egmont Street in Brunswick and will be announced via legal advertisements in The Brunswick News. Immediately following the third public hearing on July 31, the Board of Education will hold a special-called meeting, at which time a vote will be taken to set the 2008 millage rate. On Tuesday, July 15, 2008, the Board of Education approved a pro posed millage rate of 15.230 mills. However, since property values in Glynn County increased as a result of the tax digest, the percentage of prop erty tax that goes to support education in Glynn County increased by 3.11%. State law mandates that public hear ings be held to gather input on such a property tax increase. □ Telephone book recycling campaign The annual Community-wide tele phone book recycling campaign will be held from July 18 to August 18. Call KBGIB at 912-279-1490 for further information. □ Health System now offering Aquatic Therapy in St. Marys The Outpatient Rehabilitation Care Center at the Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus, in partner ship with Brooks Rehabilitation, now offers patients aquatic therapy. The aquatic therapy program began this month and is being held in the saltwa ter pool at Divers Den, in St. Marys. The Health System installed a lift chair to assist patients with limited mobility in getting in and out of the pool. “Aquatic therapy or pool therapy con sists of an exercise program performed in the water. It uses the physical prop erties of water to assist with exercise performance and healing,” said April Emerson, manager of Rehabilitation Services at the Camden Campus. “Our physical therapists specifically tailor the pool program to the patients’ needs. Swimming experience is not necessary because most exercise is performed standing in the water.” According to Emerson, numerous diagnoses can be treated with pool therapy. “Individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, low back pain/ surgery, fibromyalgia, sprains, non weight bearing injuries, and patients Kid's Health Expo The second annual Kid's Health Expo will held at the Glynn County Health Department, 2747 Fourth Street in Brunswick on Thursday, August 7 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Expo is fun, interactive and educational. One package store also sold to the underage law enforcement officer, the Village Package Store on Ocean Blvd. The investigation resulted in the arrest of nine individuals charging them with Furnishing Alcoholic Bever ages to a person under the age of twen ty-one. This charge is a misdemeanor offense in the State of Georgia. There is at least one arrest still pending stem ming from the investigation. All of the nine arrested have been released from the Glynn County Detention Center on bond pending court appearances. According to Chief Matt Doering of the Glynn County Police Department, the Georgia Department of Revenue will follow-up with any regulatory vio lations involving the businesses and/or the alcohol license holders. “We will continue to work alongside the mem bers of the Georgia Department of Revenue to ensure that businesses in Glynn Comity realize that we will not tolerate sales of alcohol to underage people,” said Doering. □ Thank you.
