Golden Isles Arts and Humanities
Association (GIAHA) is expanding its
Summer Theater Camp Program to
three different sessions this year and
offering young people ages seven and
up a fun learning experience and a
chance to show their skills on stage.
For the past decade, the Ritz Sum
mer Theater Camps have been an
extremely popular program for children
in the Golden Isles. Theater classes
are not only for those who want to be
on stage; they’re also a great way to
enhance concentration, discipline and
social and interpersonal skills.
2009 Camp Schedule
• June 8-19, 9 a.m. - noon, Monday-
Friday: Acting on the Stage (Ages 7-12)
Explore the world of acting on stage
through theater games, improvisation,
and scripted material. Participants will
create and perform their own play at
the end of the two-week session. Taught
by Heather Heath, Executive Director
of GIAHA and longtime professional
actor and director.
• July 6-17, 9 a.m. - noon, Monday-
Friday: On the Spot with Improv (Ages
7 and up)
Using improvisational games, stu
dents will learn how to "jump in there
and let go!" Open to all levels of expe
rience, this fun and sometimes crazy
session will culminate in a unique per
formance where two teams battle for
laughs and points as they make up
scenes, games, and songs on the spot.
Taught by Kelly Dobbin, who holds a
Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater
Performance from Roosevelt University
and has performed professionally in a
variety of venues throughout the coun
try, including acting on stage at the
Ritz in such shows as Fahrenheit 451
and The Little Foxes.
• July 20-31, 9 a.m. - noon, Monday-
Friday: The Play's the Thing (Ages 7
and up)
This session is open to students who
have experience in performing on stage.
Using scripted material, participants
will focus on further developing such
acting skills as creating character, vocal
techniques, and more. A showcase of
scenes will show off their talent at the
end of the two-week session. Require
ments for participants: audition, partic
ipation in prior summer theater camps
or actual production experience. Taught
by Kelly Dobbin.
Each session is limited to no less
than 10 and no more than 20 partici
