Georgia Coastal Artists Guild to hold show May 2
Members of the Georgia Coastal Artists Guild will exhibit their paint
ings Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Coffee and Art in
the Thorpe Building of St. Simons United Methodist Church on Ocean
Blvd. All artists will be available to welcome viewers. Over 25 artists
participate in the three annual shows of this guild of fine art painters.

Evening at Ashantilly Under the Canopy
Evening at Ashantilly Under the
Canopy will be held Saturday, May 2,
7 p.m. at Ashantilly Center Grounds,
Hwy. 99, 1 mile east of Darien.
Canopy Repertory Co., of Canopy
Studios, Athens, Ga. will present an
aerial dance performance on trapezes
rigged in the limbs of a stately live oak
on the grounds of Ashantilly Center.
Twelve performers, in rotation on rig
ging points, will present dances on tra
pezes, aerial silks, a lyra (a steel hoop),
and a welded triangle.
Canopy Studio, founded by Susan
Murphy and built by her husband, Don
Carson, is a non-profit community arts
center, thriving in aerial arts.
Fiberarts Guild
The regular monthly meeting of the
Golden Isles Fiberarts Guild will be
held Monday, May 4, in the parish hall
of Holy Nativity Church, 615 Mallery
Street, St. Simons Island. The “Sew
ing from the Heart” program will be a
show-and-tell of vintage and antique
garments from the mid-19th to mid-
20th century. Members and guests
are invited to bring garments from
their families to share with the group.
A pre-program, at 6:30 p.m., will be
a hands on demonstration of a rolled
hem; participants should bring a quilt
ing needle. Newcomers welcome. For

Canopy Studio offers dance trapeze
and aerial fabrics as fitness, fun, move
ment education, and performance art
for children, teens and adults. Canopy
began as a group of eight women who
embraces Susan's vision. The Compa
ny presents two major shows a year.
Members also teach 19 classes a week,
in addition to mentoring student per
formances, teaching, birthday parties,
helping with fundraising and commu
nity outreach.
A donation of $35 for adults and $20

’Five Grands and Twenty Hands’
matinee concert added
A second performance of The
Keys for the Cure: Five Grands and
Twenty Hands Concert is scheduled
Saturday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at Wesley
United Methodist Church at Fred
erica on St. Simons Island.
The concert, benefiting Relay For
Life, will feature ten pianists, two at
each of five grand pianos, perform
ing classical, popular, sacred and
other works from the 17th century to
the present, written exclusively for
“one piano-four hands.”
“When the more than 500 tick
ets for the May 8 concert sold out,
the ten pianists and Wesley United
Methodist Church agreed to add this
Saturday matinee performance to
allow more of the public to experi
ence this remarkable gathering of
pianos and pianists,” said concert
producer, Diana Murphy.
“Not only will proceeds from ticket
sales benefit Relay For Life, the fight
against cancer is a personal one for
all of the Concert’s local musicians.
All ten have been touched in some
way by the disease and five of the
performers—one at each piano—are
cancer survivors,” Murphy said.
All tickets for the Saturday per
formance are $25 and may be pur
chased, by check only (no cash or
