Tolochee pool house ready for Scouts

Georgia is like most states
south of the Mason-Dixon
when it comes to guns and
football... football rules on Fri
day and Saturday nights and
as long as you purchased your
gun legally, you can carry it in
your car or truck without any
special permit.
Go the extra step in Geor
gia, and an individual can get
a permit to carry a concealed
weapon. It used to actually
be called a ‘Toter’s Permit,’
seriously. Although, they may
have changed that now and
formalized the name some
how.
Anyway, up until Thurs
day, May 21 Glynn County
employees, like everyone else
in Georgia, could carry weap
ons on their person and in
comity vehicles.

Local architect A.J. Berry, Jr. AIA (left) and Matthew McHale, project manager for B.T.
Ramsey Co., Inc., both former Boy Scouts, were two of many local business people
who donated time and materials for the construction of the swimming pool and pool
house at Camp Tolochee on Blythe Island. Berry designed the pool house and McHale
supervised the construction. The facility is ready for Okefenokee Area Council Boy
Scouts who will be arriving for Scout camp within the next several weeks.

Glynn Comity residents and
visitors aren't the only ones
who have new swimming pool.
Thanks to donations of
time, labor and materials from
a large group of local business
people, Boy Scout Camp Tolo
chee also has a new pool and
pool house.
While the new pool at Camp
Tolochee may not be as fancy
as the new Neptune Park facil
ity, it is just what the doc
tor ordered for a group of Boy
Scouts earning swimming, life
saving and water sports merit
badges or just cooling off from
the summer heat.
The junior Olympic size pool
itself was finished in time for
camp last summer at a cost of
$150,000. The pool house was
recently completed for use this
summer at a cost of $100,000.
The total amount of $250,000
was made available to the Oke
fenokee Area Council through
an anonymous donation,
according to Matthew McHale,
of B.T. Ramsey Co. Inc.
Camp Tolochee is the Boy
Scouts of America (BSA) Oke
fenokee Area Council's camp
on Blythe Island.
The swimming pool is one of
55 improvement projects pro
posed for Tolochee in 2005 in
recognition of the camp's 55th
anniversary.
Along with the pool and pool
house, much has already been
done at Tolochee, including:
campsite renovations and tent
platform repairs, set up and
renovations to the Southeast
Georgia Health System Health
Lodge, water lines replaced,
kitchen renovations, ranger's
house renovated, a low ropes
course, electrical repairs and
upgrades just to name a few
projects.

Federal Law Enforcement Training Center from Center
Director Connie Patrick during the Chamber's Member

FLETC and the need to keep current with new trends in
technology and its place in law enforcement.

BOE buys extra
property for
Glynn Middle
By Matthew J. Permar
Although it wasn't specifi
cally listed on the agenda, the
Glynn County Board of Educa
tion (BOE) voted unanimously
last week to purchase four
acres of property from the city
of Brunswick adjacent to the
new Glynn Middle School.
The public vote was made
under the 'Other' portion of
the 'Superintendent's Report'
listing on the agenda for the
Tuesday, May 26 school board
meeting.
The cost of the property
is $500,000. $100,000 of the
money will come from the Edu
cation Special Purpose Local
Option Sales Tax.
The other $400,000 was
money that was originally
budgeted for the demolition of
the old C.B. Greer school that
the BOE traded to the city as
part of the deal to acquire the
15 acre tract for the new Glynn

The Brunswick Senior
Squadron Civil Air Patrol
(CAP) held their monthly
SAREX (Search and Rescue
Exercise) the weekend of May
16 with 23 volunteers, four
CAP planes and one private
plane participating.
"We put out three practice
emergency beacons, different
frequencies throughout the
county. Our planes located the
beacons electronically and led
the ground teams to the site,"
said Incident Commander Lt.
Col. Jack Caldwell.
Training also included check
rides to qualify CAP members
for search and rescue missions,
compass and map work and
ground handling of airplanes
on line. Maj. Bill Houseman
was Director of Operations
and in charge of the air and
