GICA accepts surplus ambulance from Glynn County Commission
In recognition of The Golden Isles
Career Academy's (GICA) efforts
for providing hands-on training
and experience for its students, the
Glynn County Commission recently
donated a surplus emergency squad
ambulance to GICA.
It was presented to the school
by Deputy Fire Chief Tom Dixon
and fleet manager, Terry W. Corey,
and accepted by Dr. Ralph Gornto,
GICA's Director of High School Pro
grams.
“Taking blood pressure in a mov
ing vehicle is very different from
taking it in a classroom,” said Dr.
Gornto. "This unique vehicle will
help us add realism and relevance to
our healthcare training."
The vehicle will be used as a part of
both high school and college Health
care programs offered at GICA. Stu
dents will receive on-the-job training
through simulations involving caring
for injured individuals in the ambu
lance.
The state of the art, 123,000
square-foot facility opened to Altama-
ha Technical College students on
Monday, July 20, and will open to
high school students of Glynn County
on Thursday, August 6. □
