The Guys: play honors law enforcement
Art Downtown and CA.P.E. The
ater will present “The Guys” by Anne
Nelson on September 11, 12 and 13, in
honor, remembrance and appreciation
for those who provide law enforcement,
security and fire fighting/EMT services
for our community and country.
This very special show, featuring
performances by local actors Kelly Dob
bin and John Regan, will be held for
one weekend only at the Mary Miller
Theater located inside Gallery 209 at
209 Gloucester Street in downtown
Brunswick.
“The Guys” is a poignant, funny and
bittersweet story of a New York edi
tor, Joan, and the unexpected phone
call she receives on behalf of Nick, a
fire captain, less than two weeks after
the September 11 attacks. Nick has
lost most of his men in the attack and,
while still dealing with his own raw
emotions, is looking for a writer to help
him with the eulogies he must present
at each man’s memorial service.
Nick and Joan recall each fallen
man through the recounting of his
virtues and foibles and make their way
through the emotional landscape of
grief. Drawing on humor, the possibil
ity of friendship and the unconquerable
spirit of community, Nick and Joan
discover the enduring bonds of com
mon humanity. “The Guys” is based on
a true story.
Doors open on September 11 and
12 at 7:30 p.m. and the performance
begins at 8:00 p.m. A matinee perfor
mance will be held Sunday, September
13 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available
at Art Downtown for $15 per person
which includes the performance, hors
d’oeuvres and beverages. For more
information, visit capetheater.org or
