The first day of September is a
day of lovely memories of Billy and
Gayle's wedding eight years ago which
was followed the next day with a
90th birthday party for my precious

special couple.

Flatlanders Frolic
The 39th Annual Flatlanders Fall-
Frolic will open Saturday, September
5 on the Lanier County Courthouse
Square in downtown Lakeland, Ga.
The huge outdoor show will be
filled with vendors of arts, crafts,
antiques, food and beverages and
children's activities.
The Tim Cochran Band will head
line Saturday night's concert held on
the outdoor stage at Theatre Center
beginning at 7 p.m. The Cochran
band plays country, Southern rock
and cover tunes from top albums.
Admission to the concert is $2;
chilcren under 12 free.
The Frolic is sponsored by the
Lanier County Lions Club. □

Local Student selected to UGA
Foundation Fellows Program
The University of Geor
gia Foundation recently
announced the names of |
eleven incoming fresh
men selected to receive
its prestigious Foundation
Fellowship. Awardees of |
the scholarship, valued
in excess of $22,000, were
selected from 1,100 appli
cants. Among the students
selected was Megan Unger,
a native of Kingsland and
graduate of Camden Coun
ty High School. Megan will
major in biochemistry and
molecular biology, and psy
chology.
The class of 2013 Foun
dation Fellows boasted an
average GPA of 4.11 and
an average SAT score of |
1524. Foundation Fellows
are among the top scholars
in the nation, and one was
recently named as winner
of a Barry M. Goldwater
Scholarship. In 2008, two
fellows were named as
Rhodes Scholars. UGA was
the only university in 2008
with two Rhodes Scholars. Megan Unger was recently selected to receive

arships, in addition to more than $21
million in annual funding it provides
to the university. □
