German Village Continued from Page 8 frequently asked questions about Musgrove, one of which is “What kinds of recreation will the park of fer?” They answer with: “You will find hiking trails, biking trails, a fishing dock, an exploratory area for children, and a ramp to launch kayaks, paddle- boards, and motorized boats no longer than 20 feet.” Also on the SSLT web site are renderings for a large, new fishing pier on the park marshfront. In the 3-page letter to the County, White states “It is untimely to grant an infrastructure permit based upon an understanding that a substantial amount of infrastructure must be completed prior to beginning of any building construction where the de veloper’s building construction plans have apparently not been made known and, at least as described in various public documents, are completely in consistent with an established subdi vision where the average daily traffic (ADT) is a minimum as compared to other minor roads in subdivisions in Glynn County and stands to be mark edly increased.” Despite multiple requests by The Islander newspaper, the County has not been able to provide a copy of the final approved Construction Permit (CP 3880) granted to the Land Trust for the Guale Preserve development. In an October 21, 2018 email from the County Director of Community Development to Rep. Jeff Jones, Rep. Don Hogan, Commissioners Bill Brunson, Peter Murphy, Mike Brown ing, Richard Strickland, Bob Cole man, Allen Booker, County Manager Alan Ours, County Attorney Aaron Mumford, County Planning Manager Stefanie Leif, Village Bluff HOA Pres ident Anne Ditmer, and The Islander, Pamela Thompson states: “the project submitted (Guale Preserve) for review shows five (5) grass parking spaces for passenger vehicles, not vehicles with trailers. Five grass parking spaces that can be accessed off of Village Drive and fifteen grass spaces that are accessed off of Middle Road do not meet the definition of “Regional Park.” As I am sure you are aware, many areas of scenic beauty are reached via roads that also have homes on them. One example that readily comes to mind is Gascoigne Bluff.” In contrast, the SSLT website de scribes its project scope as, “This park will attract area residents and region al vacationers looking for a safe, fun, and beautiful outdoor experience near the heart of the island.” The SSLT sums its potential park impact with “Transforming Musgrove will equip our island and region with another powerful ecological and recre ational attraction.” Attorney White points out in her letter of appeal to the County that the public marina at Gascoigne Bluff, used in Ms. Thompson’s comparison, actually existed “long before construc tion of the homes and businesses along Hamilton Road, as the marina was first the location of a landing for Hamilton plantation and then the Hilton Dodge Sawmill located at the site.” White added, “Even so, unlike Vil lage Bluffs potential situation, these homes and businesses are removed January 14, 2019, The Islander, Page 9 from the flow of traffic because the new areas restrict ingress and egress from Hamilton Road. “In fact, to further slow and control traffic access to Arthur J. Moore Dr., along which there are very few struc tures in the (Gascoigne) Bluff area, the road was blocked when the four way stop at the entry to the island was re-worked. Even with these steps, Gascoigne has long been a hang-out which requires monitoring by local authorities.” White concludes, “To create a simi lar situation in a quiet subdivision without so much as a public hearing is untenable, and for these reasons, the Village Bluff Property Owners’ Asso ciation appeals the issuance of the in frastructure only permit - or whatever permit has been issued - and asks that the Island Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners require that SSLT present its development plan in its entirety and allow it to be ad dressed as would any other develop ment plan, rather than as a piecemeal intrusion into an otherwise secluded and quiet neighborhood.” Golden Isles Penguin Project to hold informational meeting The Golden Isles Penguin Proj ect, a musical theatre production that casts children and young adults with disabilities in all roles, will hold an informational meeting on Tues day, January 22 at 6:30 pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Brunswick.
